Pic Request: Targa Bar Rosette I promise I dug around for this.... I'm looking for a picture of a properly installed set or maybe an explanation as to just how they install. Or maybe these aren't supposed to go on my '75? http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1374841352.jpg http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1374841380.jpg |

I got this pic from the 7th page of posts in the below thread. http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1374843987.jpg http://forums.pelicanparts.com/porsche-911-technical-forum/684017-1976-targa-rebuild-oz-7.html The thread may talk about how to install them but I used a heat gun on the plugs - they have teeth/ridges. Put a dowel in the plug hole and once softened, they go in pretty easy with a push. Get an extra one as things can "go wrong" the first time given experience level (ask me how I know) |
|
so did your's look like what I have and I've got them on backwards (need to go on first before the rubber? |
|
Thank you for that link, I'm starting to think I need to find what Dennis lists, plug/seals and maybe what I have is a later (964?) part. |

I am a little fuzzy in my memory regarding the faceplate. I am looking in the parts PDF's now to see if I can find an exploded pic. That should clear things up. I don't remember it in my 81. I do see plates like those that screw into the face of the front latch assy. You guide the locking handles into them. |
|
thank you for the help Bob, placing an order for the right stuff. I'll see if I can find a part no. on these to try and figure out just what they are as now I'm curious. |

See part 7. Not sure if the same as part in your pic.. See parts 53/54. Not seeing plate in rear. http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1374845920.jpg |

part 7 sure does look like it, I'll have to look at my top later and see if they are already there and it's the same. I believe you are spot on w/ the 53/54 parts. |
|
After seeing the price - get two extra pins. |
|
yeah that plate doesnt go there in the first pic , they go at the front. the second pic is correct. |
|
The plastic part in your first photo attaches to your targa top where the handles fit into the latches. That is why it should say "auf" and "zu" (open and closed) on it. |

Those are tricky to get in you need to take an awl and weld a 12 mm washer on at 30 mm from the tip ,(the proper depth), otherwise you'll bugger them. They lock the rubber in then you put the cover pin in. the plastic piece doesn't go there |

I think he intends us to weld the washer on an awl, not the plug Travis, sent from my Galaxy S3 |

A dowel, or awl alone will push through the plug tip, especially if you warm it a bit. |
|
That's funny, I read that earlier and thought "I don't have a welder but I bet I could rig up a bolt with a washer and nut 30mm down." Travis, sent from my Galaxy S3 |

1: buy a cheap awl 2; buy a 12mm washer 3 slide the washer down the awl tip 4: weld at 30mm from the tip An Ice pick will work too. |

I considered metal putty that did a passable job fixing a hole in my muffler pipe :D |
