Post motor mount question

I found some solid Billet aluminum motor mounts on-line. Anyone have these. Would they be to soft being aluminum. Thanks

Never heard of anyone giving any Durometer test numbers for billet aluminum ... but I suspect they are quite a bit harder than a bowling ball, and they are pretty high up on the hardness scale! Ever heard the phrase 'Hard as Woodpecker lips?' Same hardness area!

I suspect your only problems with solid mounts wound be the extremely high noise level transmitted into the body structure!

Thumbs up

i just put a set of solid mounts in my car and it isn't that bad. i have to say though that my car is louder than the average road car already so my perception may be a bit off. the difference in chasis stiffness is like night and day though, it just depends on the use of the car and the price you are willing to pay.

What about sport mounts. I have heard of these but have not seen them any where. Is this an in between mount, harder than stock but not solid?

If you need "sport' mounts, use Carrera Cabrio mounts as they are harder.
The alu mounts are too noisy for street use.

I've just installed the "sport mounts" into my car. Along with the new mille miglia exhaust....I can't here a friggin' thing. Just as well I actually like 911 engine music!

Hello

Solid mounts where used on race cars. The Porsche race dept. has some versions.

AFIR the Convertible mounts are softer and Porsche had to use a reaction damper to avoid the car get shaked by the engine.

The normal way to tune the mount hardness is by turning the big cuplike washers from showing outwards to showing inwards.

Roland,
The cabrio engine mounts are part number
911-375-043-07, and are the same as the one used on the clubsport (M637). Porsche used a vibration damper in the support bar for the engine and a shock absorber to reduce vibrations. The cup washers have been used in the way you describe for many years as stock from the factory.
