Advice for P&Cs
 

Working on my 1968 2.0 S engine after motorsheister killed it. My pistons and cylinders measure out ok on ovality etc. but are only .002" from wear limit. I have been researching options that are not $4500, which is what a new set would cost. Has anyone looked at Swaintech PC-9 coating for 911? Seems to be used in 928 engines to shrink the tolerance but would like input on durability and just plain go/no-go on using this to extend the life of this engine.

A friend and I were just discussing this same issue today as my 914-6 is getting up in mileage and will need a rebuild one of these days. With the cost of the original set so out of sight, I wonder if the old barrels can be reused with new pistons from one of the suppliers? If they're the original iron barrels, they usually hold up pretty well, but I think it's the piston ring sizing that gives up the ghost.

Probably checking with Henry at Supertec or one of the other engine rebuilders would be your best option. As with most things, you can either do it on the cheap or correctly. Rarely are the two comparable with each other!

I agree that they are rarely compatible. However, if within wear limit and coated with the durable coating would it be acceptable? With technology in coatings so much better than it was it may be viable. Hoping to hear from Henry and others on this. I gotta call Henry anyways about rocker arms.
