Got off the phone with EBS about 5 minutes ago and this is what they said:
My heads looked fine, they only had to remove a hairs width from the sealing surface on #6 so it will not require thicker base gaskets, when they tried to remove the exhaust studs they all snapped so they had to be time-certed, they are reassembled and ready to pack. My oil cooler also pressure tested fine and has been ultrasonicly cleaned (neat-o) and is also ready to box up. He siad they'll ship day after tomorrow. WHOO HOO! Now it's really getting exciting.......and scary. Promise me you guys are gonna be here to help me with this cam timing. .......did I say: "****WHOO HOO****"!!!? |

Great news, Leland. Could have been a lot worse. Regarding cam timing, I think you'll find it's a lot easier than you think. Once you get the concept, it's a lot easier than valve adjustment, to me at least. What I think takes the most time is measuring and adjusting the cam sprocket positions relative to the drive sprockets on the intermediate shaft. Lots of people just put the shims back in the way they came out. You really should measure these to get the best wear on the sprockets and keep the motor happy. It's not really that hard to do but you should do it. The board members will help you through it if you have not done it before.

Lee,
Great news! Sounds like it will be no time before you have red Loctite 518 on your hands and clothes! And a happy running 3.0 in your SC again! I guess those Behr oil coolers are pretty tough, afterall, huh? ------------------ Warren Hall 1973 911S Targa 1992 Dodge Dakota 5.2 4X4 parts hauler |

Leland, I know you have been doing your rebuild on a budget...I have all the tools necessary for the cam timing:
1. Dial indicator 2. DI holder 3. Tool for holding cam sprocket 4. Tool for sprocket pin removal I will loan you any or all of it when the time comes you need it. I used it all once for my 3.2 rebuild a few months ago and have not touched the stuff since. Let me know if I can help. Tom '88 911 Cab |

Thanks for the support guys,
I know I can do the cam timing...but it is really nice to be able to ask you guys questions if there is something that I feel a little uneasy about. I hope it isn't going to cost me an arm and a leg with those time-certs...I'll have to wait and see the bill Wedensday. Towen, yes I am definately on a bugdet and I thank you for your offer very much...wish I had known 8 months ago... ![]() I am also looking to drive up to Puyawlup (SP?) Washington here in the next few weeks to see a friend...from what I understand it is fairly close to Seattle...anyone wanting to go out for a beer and show off their ride please get in touch with me. Later guys, Lee |

From this board I have had very much help from different people and everybody is nice to each other. Don't know why the "other" boarders think we are mean.
I too have to thank all the fellow BBS members here for all the help i have got. //Zen (Mikko Kosonen) |

Leland, the dial indicator I have is metric. So when you need it, let me know a shipping address. Glad to help.

Leland:
Great stuff! Maybe the Seattle bunch can meet down the street from John Walker's at the pub? That would be great! Or just take over John's... ;> By the way, the Puyallup fair is going to be in full swing shortly...it's a lot of fun and I'll be taking my kid down to it. Might want to check it out? Get ahold of me; you've got my email! Jw |

One tool you don't need....the ring end sprocket pin puller. Use a spark plug that's had the tip screwed off. It's a nice firm grip. Good luck. It's a rewarding job with a real sense of accomplishment waiting for you when you finish.....followed by a cold pilsner.

Towen thank you very much for the offer!
I'll email you. I know I have been slacking on the updates... it's just not been that exciting. I did buy a set of rocker arm bushings and had them installed into the arms and fine honed. $57 for the bushings and $120 to fit and hone 'em. They will fit very nicely on my new rocker arm shafts. ![]() After this the only things I still need to buy are a set of ignition wires, oil filter, crankcase breather hose, fan belt, and maybe Jacks sweet exhaust setup and she'll be back on the road. I was actually planning on going up to Washington this weekend since it is a 4 day weekend for me but I got stuck with the pager so I can't leave the local area... crappy... But I will be sure to get in touch with some of you before I do head out so we can meet up and have a beer. |

I'll be e-mailing you about the beer thing. I hate to drink beer and talk with nice people about cars, but I'll do it anyway.
Happy wrenching, and if you need help, well, you clearly understand where to look. This rebuilt engine will run perfectly, but since you don't know that yet, there will be some anxiety. And the convenient thing is that the anxiety will never be higher than when the time comes to see if this motor can turn that flywheel on its own. And when, in an instant you see that it runs beautifully, you may get thirsty. And sleep really good that night. The world does not understand thrill seekers, but we do. ------------------ '83 SC |

I'd be pleased to meet our revered SCWDP Founder.
If this gig is gonna be on a weekend, count me in. The 74th st Ale House would rock, especially if John Walker could attend also. BTW...there is Vintage racing at SIR on the weekend of Sept 15-16. If this conicides with your visit, Leland, we could all meet at the track. ------------------ '81 SC Coupe (aka: "Blue Bomber") Canada West Region PCA The Blue Bomber's Website |

Hi all. Signing in from Jack Olsens place. Count me in for the beer and gab session. I can fascinate you all with outlandishly exagerrated tales of the perils of driving at Willow springs.
