oil level drop

How long does it take for the oil level in the oil tank to drop after
the engine has been shut off?

My oil gauge finally works since yesterday (had the engine removed and
replaced oil sender and oil cooler because of leaks) and I noticed something strange.

After about 2-3 hours, I wanted to move the car and noticed the oil level
was still half way before I started the car.

This morning oil level was back to 0 and it took about 10mins of driving to
come up again (which I think is normal)

Engine warm and idling oil level is about 3/4.

Does it really take overnight for the oil to return to the crankcase?

Thx

it has less to do about oil in the crankcase/ tank than wether the thermostat is open to do a proper dynamic measurement ( which is what the 911 uses ) . As the thermostat closes less oil flows and the reading is less...

dont worry about it and just go drive your car .... and just check periodically that your dipstick matches your guage...

Mine is spot on and i can top up using my guage .. but you have to really know your car before doing this..
