88 911 Random no start problems
 

Some random no start issues that I hope Pelicans can help me figure out.
Occasionally my 88 3.2 carrera fails to start or hits intermittently, usually just as key is released from cranking 5-10 seconds without it starting, it will fire but stumbles to get going. I have changed the DME relay during one of these episodes with no change of events. Seems to have a slight miss both at idle and upon acceleration around 3000 rpm. The only modification are a cat-delete pipe. It has failed to start at all several time only to start after I've left it alone and returned later(day or two). Its getting good spark but smells as if its loading up on fuel, and will back fire when trying to get it started during one of these episodes.

I bet $1 it is the DME itself.

forgot to mention that once it starts it will always restart without problem. Also, I'm not 100% positive but it seems like this occurs on wet/humid days as opposed to dry days.???

Hey recall a post similar a few months ago. One of the guys here with far more knowledge than me. Responded with this (I wrote it down in my notebook for future reference)

"There is a filter screen Part no: 911-201-14-00-moo
Which is not a maintenance item, which should be replaced every couple of decades/due condensation in a steel fuel tank which is normal.
watch for bucking & studdering under heavy troll between 3000-4500 RPM"

I found a loose fuse was causing a no fire situation 2 weeks ago. It went from starting to no start after sitting a few days. Ranked fine but no start. Can't recall the number but I cleaned them all with scotch brite and tightened them a little. All well now
