Help finding a short
Last week i changed my licence plate lights to LED bolts because i removed the bumperettes everything worked fine, two days ago i found a blown fuse, the one for the left parking lights, replaced the fuse but the moment i try to turn on the lights it blows again and just realized my licence plate lights dont work anymore ive checked for melted wires under the dash, the connections etc but cant find the short i hope someone can help me diagnose it and guide me to find the problem ive studied the wiring diagrams but unless its my light switch i dont know where the circuits could cross
Thanks in advance, best regards |
Well I'd certainly focus your attention on the recent changes, checking all the wires going to the rear lights and license plate lights for a short to ground.

Thanks Chuck i think i found the problem, the licence lights are wired inline with the parking lights, i have the licence fuse and can see the gray wire leaving the fuse panel but i cannot find it in the back anyone knows where should it come out? I would like to wire them properly and have the fuse fo its job right now its only a spare, ive tested the reminal and it gets power
Thanks in advance |

The juice goes through the 6 pin port in the way back of the engine compartment on the driver's side. Believe that the license light wires join into that wire bundle under the car but still on the left side - downstream of the female plug grommet in the engine bay. I would pull the plug from that back corner in the engine bay and then put a new fuse in and pull the light switch out with key on. It it (fuse) remains intact your problem is in the rear end of the car. Side note - I have had issues with the little engine light on the engine lid. It that shorts - or if the wire is loose and able to touch ground - the left side running light(s) fuse will blow |

I have a pin out buried here of all the wires that go into that plug for the rear lights if needed, but I thing you have a simpler issue. A hot wire is touching ground where it should not be and I am guessing in the back - not front. |

On the other side the licence light circuit has power to the fuse block but i cannot find that wire in the back of the car (the PO must have cut it) and i wanted to wire the lights from that wire but i have no idea where it is |
