Fuchs for '83 SC
 

I recently bought these Fuchs not knowing whether or not they will fit my car (seller pic and description below). I don't know the offsets or how to measure that. If all else fails, I guess I can just throw them on with the existing tires. Two questions -- (1) Does anyone have experience with this size Fuchs on an SC....fender wells are stock. (2) Assuming they will fit, what size tires do you recommend. I'm currently running the turbo twist wheels in my avatar with 215/45x17 & 245/45x17 Michelin Pilot Super Sports. Thanks much!

"A rare set of Fuchs wheels. 16x8 fronts and 16x9 rears. The rims are polished and in nice shape with no curb rash. The painted centers have flaked in places and they need a re-paint. They have Toyo R888's mounted; the rears are shot, the fronts probably have at least a couple of DE's in them".

After I did the above post, I found this chart at Porsche Wheel Fitting Chart and Fitment Guide | Alloy Wheels Direct

The chart seems to indicate 8s & 9s may fit (?). Can anyone explain what it meant by the "18" offset? Thanks again.

Sure you'll get a better technical description somewhere, but the offset is essentially the difference between the centre line of the wheel and the outer edge of the wheel; so where the mounting points for the studs are in comparison to the centre line of the wheel.

Re impact bumpers, to my knowledge, 8s and 9s were later 3,3 turbo wheels. SCs came standard with 16" 6/7s, with 7s/8s as an option.

They will fit just fine without issue. People have been using those sizes for decades now.

While I agree that you'll have no problem with 8 or 9" wide 911 offset fuchs in the rear, the fronts cause me a bit of pause if your SC is not a wide body. While I understand that 8" 951 offset fuchs will fit up front, since the outer edge of the 8" 911 offset fuchs is closer to the rear fender than a 7" 911 offset fuchs, i'd be concerned with front wheel fit.

What is the tire size for the front tires and what is the 8" wheel's part number (does it start with 911 or 951?

On my non-wide body carrera, I needed to roll the inner front fenders to eliminate rubbing with 7" wide 911 offset fuchs when running 205/55-16 front tires.

The fuchs in the pic looks like 951 8s or 911 7s so either way no problem with just bolting them up

The front will need to have a 951 part number from what I understand for both SC's and Carreras. I know my 8's will not fit on the front of my Carrera. Also, I thought the Michelin's had a wider shoulder width than most tires of the same size. This could also be a factor.

btw-what part of TX are you in? I'm in the austin area.

Regular 911 8" wont fit an SC on the front, so hope they are 951.

At rear I have 911 8" with 7mm spacers: nice!

These are going to look great on your car. Be sure to have them very carefully examined for cracking - you want the best pair of what are an excellent choice for rear rim fitment.

You did not ask, but, if it were me? I'd sell the 8"'ers and use that money to purchase a good set of 7"'ers for the front and part payment on a repaint and polish of the 7"/9" pair. The Twists may also provide some $ if you wish to sell them.

Front rim-wise, I do not think the 8" pair with the widest tire they will fit is a good choice for street navigating in that application - they are sluggish at best at town & country speeds. The 7" set will give a far better feel. The 9" pair is a personal choice - the downside some feel is that the 245 width tire option (widest) for the 9" rims is at the same time not as "tall" as the set you'd use on your front 7". Personal choice, but I do notice it on my Targa, just a bit off on the speedo.

Then again, the 7"/8" combo is also spot-on. Equal height, balanced look. Many cannot immediately tell the diff. between the 8"/9" - if that even matters really.

what is the current availability of tires for the 9X16 rims (245/45-16)

Tirerack has a very limited selection in this size - track / DE only. Any other tire sources recommended ?

Bridgestone Potenza RE-11s for the 245. Amazing tires - transformed my car.

I have these sizes on my '82 SC .

BTW, you can tell the wheels in the pic are 9s and 8s by the recessed lug nuts.

Actually the offset is measure between the centerline of the wheel and the mounting surface of the hub portion of the wheel.
