Engine Drop Fuel Line Woes!
I'm in the process of disconnecting everything to drop the motor to deal with oil leaks and I have broken a fuel line at the back of the engine trying to undo the connection.
Please see the picture, it appears to be a three way connection attached to a bracket. It is the thick line I am trying to disconnect, and it heads through the firewall to the fuel tank I presume. The line I broke is the top line coming off towards the engine. So, how do I undo the large line and is the small vertical line that is now leaking going to be a major drama to replace? I tried to hold the bracket with an adjustable spanner to stop it twisting without success. EDIT: Just had a better look at the picture on here rather than on the IPhone I took it on and it looks like there is a smaller connection next to the large gland nut? I am now assuming I can hold the large nut steady with a spanner and undo the smaller one. Regarding the leaking line is this just a press fit that I can cut the line back to good line and just push it back on? Cheers Bill

Bill,
when I removed my engine, I used one spanner on the line coming from the tank (to keep it from twisting the line) and another one on the swivel nut (since it's a nut it can turn freely when it comes loose). Regarding the leaking fuel line, it's made from nylon and if you cut it off (don't damage the metal fitting since this would make it leak!!!), it will not be easy to re-attache them. Search in the archive for posts that deal with replacing the nylon fuel lines to the injectors. People have build special fixtures for this. - Manfred |

Thanks that was the info I needed which one to hold and which one to turn. I will search for how to refit the leaking line. I could kick myself for stressing it enough to cause it to leak! Cheers Bill

A search of refitting the line came up with the following:
Make up a jig to hold the line, heat the line with hot water and press the barb in. However there seems to be warnings to not cut the old line off of the barb. Can I use a razor blade along the length of the old bit of line to get it off? I can see not to use a pair of cutters as you don't know how long the barb is and may cut the end of the barb off. Anyone tried this repair? Cheers Bill

i don't see any broken line in the pic, just a cracked protective sleeve over the nylon line.

The line that leaked/broke is the smallest of the three and goes to the right in the picture at a 45 degree angle. I think the split is on the rear of that line. I will be able to get a better look at it once I have dropped the motor. Thanks for the advice to tighten that large line a wee bit before trying to undo it. Cheers Bill

I had another quick look before going to work.
The line that is leaking goes to the WUR so the fat horizontal line I was struggling to remove must be the feed from the tank?? Cheers Bill

Fuel return lines.........

Bill, The fuel line/s you have shown in the picture are the return lines (low pressure). In case you need to replace one of these lines, you need to look for fuel line hose for fuel injection system. Although the gasoline compatible fuel lines would work for the return lines, I prefer using the FI lines (more expensive but worth it). Tony |
