yellow / cad bolts washers

Where does everyone get their yellow Cad bolts and washers?

My local Ace , HD, Lowes is pitiful with their selections. Would like to get a nice assortment to have on hand. Appreciate suggestions and recommendations.

McMaster Carr has some yellow zinc fasteners...

I’ve been puzzled by some of the replacement parts that I’ve ordered. Many seem to be bright zinc rather than yellow.

I buy in bulk from Belmetric. But, I’ll have to checkout Global Metrics.

There’s a difference betw. CAD and Zinc. Zinc is most common (white or yellow), but CAD is more durable. CAD-sourced retailers are not common. If CAD plating is desired, find a plater that processes aircraft-spec (perhaps Mil-spec as well) fasteners.

There is also a difference between bright zinc and yellow zinc, with yellow zinc being the more corrosion resistant.

I agree that Cd is in many ways better than yellow Zn, and probably preferred by those doing exacting restoration work.

My years in the food machinery business keeps me from using it due to the toxicity factor, so it would have to be a really compelling reason to use it.

I recently replaced some engine mounts and the supplied parts were a mix of yellow and bright Zn, so I sourced some yellow from McMaster to make them look right. Not perfect, but better than a mix.

I did take note of a couple of good links posted above for future reference. They seem to accommodate smaller quantity orders, thanks for posting!

For me, it is much easier getting yellow zinc and cheaper as well. My go to is Belmetric.com. No minimum orders and everything I have ever needed.

You’re kidding, right? I’m sure an anal-compulsive owner will soon appear with that doc.

In the meantime, the sizes are all there with part numbers - in the factory parts manual. Can download from the internet.

There is a complete list for 924, 944 and 928 that someone created.... thought I would ask first before I dive into creating the list. Thank you everyone for your recommendations.

Some do, some don’t. I’d suggest spec’ing the fastener to the application. I believe the factory manual has those specs. As for the seat rails, I’d think 10.9 spec bolt would be fine, but you should confirm (metric 10.9 is equivalent to SAE 8).

I noticed on Bel Metrics catalog that e.g. a 12.9 spec M6x12mm hex bolt is $0.45 ea. while an equiv. socket head bolt is $0.13. Being that there might be access space issues in your application, I’d opt for the socket head versions. Adding a hardened washer adds $0.08 to bring each assy cost to $0.21

BTW, there is a DIN Std. for bolt & nut sizes - I've even seen a chart somewhere.

Porsche deviates from the std. in a few places (brake lines, wiper arm stud nut) but usually adheres.

There are also only a few places that high strength fasteners ares used, such as seat rail "bolts" (cap screws).

The PET will not show all the fasteners used in sub-assemblies, but the many thousands of fasteners that are listed will keep you busy for a loooong time.
