Any tricks or gotchas when installing front and rear targa glass seals

I am about to install the front and rear targa glass with new rubber seals. Does anyone on the board have any suggestions regarding this install? I would hate to struggle with this if there is an easier method than brute force. Also, I was told to use glycerin for lubricating the seals.

The front takes a piece of cord in the rubber gasket and two people. I have done it with a professional and its not that difficult.

Have talked to many people about the rear and everyone tells me that it should not be attempted if you have not done this before or do glasswork for a living. I hear that its a real PITA and the chances of cracking it are substancial... I would think of hiring someone to install the rear myself!

The tricks and gotchas...

gotcha #1 feed and threading the wires for the defrost, patience...or delete!

trick#1 use two or three pieces of tuna fish line or similar, as opposed to one piece for a windshield, the reason being, you are are coercing two planes into a cavity. and it is a *****, andyou may do it several times. two lines in the horizontal plane, and one in the verticle.

gotcha #2 watch the hard right corners for tearing, you can ruin a rubber quick.

trick #2 use silicone as long as you stay out of the body shop! I use common dish soap in the body shop.

Trick#3 helpful to have 3 people, one in the car pulling rope, two outside with gentle pressure and eyes.

Trick #4 start at the center rear, pulling one of the2 lines, work both lines to each corner, the verticle line should start in the horizontal plane (overlapping) and be the continuing lead and finish the install.

gotcha#3 Allow overlap of your ropes, and mind they do not pull out before their time. if they do, go back to go,lose 200, and roll again..

Trick#5 Slap the glass to seat as the final rope has been pulled, flat handed loud slap, the glass will settle in.

Good luck ,do'nt forget to put the moldings in first :>) You knew that...and try try try again. If you donot succeed the first time!
And cracking a targa glass? tempered, not laminated like a front windscreen. Tempered, funny stuff, set it down on theconcrete and a grain of sand sends it to crumbles! Yet you can smack the devil out of it whilst installing....Next time you are at the junkie try cracking a side glass with your hand, then go to a windshield, :>)
