Loose Plug Identification ?
I was cleaning up my engine bay and found this loose plug.
My car is a 1980 911sc with original 3.0 engine. ![]()

On my 1980 911 SC, that plug is connected to the external voltage regulator, as seen in the photo below. My understanding is that 78-81 had external voltage regulators, while 82-83 had alternators with internal voltage regulators. Looking at the photo that you provided, I do not see an external voltage regulator, so it is possible that you may have a newer style alternator installed.

It went to the (now absent) external regulator.

External vs internal
OK I think I understand.
The VR must be part of the alternator now.
