3.2 Conversion - The end is near & set for 8/10

After a weekend of fun with wiring harnesses (thanks to Cary and John Walker), DMEs, relays, fuse panels, bentleys, 911 shop manuals, and various gaskets, the end is in sight.

I would have had the tranny back on the engine but for a certain main seal that was damaged during install. That kind of stuff always happens when the parts store is closed

Anyway the 3.2 conversion home page has been updated.

All are welcome on 8/10 at 10:00 for the final hoisting of 3.2s and http://www.pelicanparts.com/support/smileys/wat6.gif

Thanks to DougE who did the 11-3 am shift on Friday, and R. LeSchander for the Saturday shift.

Send me a Private Message for directions, if interested.

Web page looks great - do I smell a second career coming around the corner ???

Hope to see all the NoVa Pelicanheads for the hoisting.

Jim Richards 08-04-2002 05:49 PM

See y'all Saturday!

marcesq 08-04-2002 05:51 PM

Hey Jim, if you come early enough, I'll check to see if you need a new 3.2 :D

Jim Richards 08-04-2002 06:25 PM

If I nod off for even a moment, I'll probably find a 2.7 back there

marcesq 08-04-2002 06:28 PM

Jim:

Not possible . . . the 2.7 is gone:)

Jim Richards 08-04-2002 06:29 PM

So you must be thinking of Richard's 3.2, eh?

Rick Lee 08-04-2002 06:49 PM

At this point, I'll be happy if I can drive my 911 to Marc's house on Sat. It's down tonight and the trusty pick-up is getting me around. Luckily a friend works at Porsche of Arlington and is getting me a new DME tomorrow so I can start tracing this problem. I'm sure I'll have plenty of stories to share next Sat. Would you believe I broke down today very close to my very recent ex's house? No, I did not call her.

Jim Richards 08-04-2002 06:57 PM

Richard, might have been bad Porsche-jealousy vibes. You need to be especially nice to your car during these times.

Marc, I hope you're not thinking what I think you're thinking. Just to be sure, I think I'll arrive on Saturday fashionably late. :D

And to all the NoVA guys (esp. Doug E)...my 993 is NOT a donor car! :p

Rick Lee 08-04-2002 07:09 PM

Jim, we're gonna have you hog-tied and your engine out by lunch time. Now, who needs a 3.6 more? Doug E or myself?

PORSHIN 08-04-2002 07:18 PM

Marc...hope it all goes well! Sorry I can't be there to help you drink your beer! Get it going soon so you can join us for a mountain ride.
Rob

Matt:

Thanks . . . but your home page is incredable. I wish I had your talents, both mechanically, and electronically (webwise). The '74 is quite the specimen. The color is perfect for the track, and looks great. Of course, I am partial to that narrow rear :D

Cheers

Bump for tomorrow !!

Hi Marc, see you tomorrow around 10am.

Marc,

My rebuild diary makes it sound like I played a significant role in the dismantling -- and rebuilding -- of my engine. Well, the truth is, I didn't do all that much: my good friend Adam Chaplin and a guy named Joe did most of the dismantling, while my mechanic, John Gregory, rebuilt the engine. I wish I had done more; I wish I had the requisite aptitude, but I don't, and that's why, I guess subconsciously, I painted a slightly inaccurate picture with my diary. :)

But thanks for your kind words, and good luck with the rest of your project!

great write up, good luck with the finish;)

marcesq 08-10-2002 03:05 AM

Thanks Richard.

Matt: I know that you are being modest. Very few of us could do a start to finish rebuild, myself included. Just tackleing a project like that is great, and enlisting the help of others who have experiance is just plain smart !!

Well it's off to the garage for final preparations. I left repacking the CV joint for the last task before the install (Couldn't find anyone who wanted to venture in there).

Hopefully a final post later this evening.
