3.0 - Reliable acceleration additions?
I think that an SC with a 3.0 engine is plenty fast, but of course I can't help but think about making it faster...
![]() In reviewing past web discussions, my impression is that to add true "seat of the pants" reliable improvements in acceleration one should consider 1. Adding SSIs and 2. Swapping the 915 ring & pinion to a 7.31 unit like early transmissions. I'm not going to make an engine swap, add a turbo, or crack open the engine for better cams & pistons. And this won't be a track car. Are the above past recommendations still suggested? And do you think they are really worth the estimated $3800 in parts cost? Thanks! Dickson |

Smaller tyres, at the expense of economy , not a word I use in conjunction with "sc"

Free - loose weight (the car, not you ;-) )
Spend your money on suspension bits. Todd

Cam timing can be tweaked to give a bit more squirt at low end in exchange for running out of breath at high end quicker.
Don't know if this can be done with engine in car. Kind of doubt it.

Loose weight the car and you, it is the least expensive way to go faster!

I think you're right with the "lose weight" suggestion!
![]() I'm signed up to bike a metric century ride (62 miles) in Grand Junction CO on October 5th. http://http://www.tourofthemoon.com/ We will climb about 3600 feet over that long ride....I am trying to lose 20 lbs by then....That much less to pull up the hills! ![]() |

Now in 993 land ...

I would not mess with the final drive ratio. It changes the car's "long legs" at higher speed. Only time when I feel the old ratio makes sense, is if you are a competitve autocrosser.
Instead put 964 cams (or similar) in conjunction with SSI. Also make sure you get the most out of your distributor timing. Replacing cams is not more complicated than swapping out ring & pinion. G |
