OT: So long Chick...
I'm not sure there are any obvious connections between 911s and the Lakers, but I've been quite sad since hearing the news that Chick Hearn passed. I first heard him when I was about 5 years old growing up in San Diego in the 60's. I last heard him during the Nets series this year. Over those 35 some odd years I drifted in and out of following the game, but whenever I tuned in Chick was there. I remember being so mesmerized by his call that I would turn down the TV on national games and listen to the simulcast. I even went so far as to feed the radio through a digital delay to make up for the time difference between the TV and radio signal.
While there are still recordings, it makes me sad that I'll never hear another game called by Chick...he was an artist. It may seem silly, but I feel like a part of my life has passed. Life is short, appreciate what you've got, live in the moment...geez this is stupid, I gotta just buy a frickin' p-car. Last edited by nostatic; 08-05-2002 at 10:28 PM.. |

I say, go for it. I've kept out of the "Now you do, now you don't" threads, mainly because I'm rooting for you and I want to see how it pans out. It's like watching Reality TV shows: Not my business, but I can't help but look sometimes.
Just keep your eyes open and make a move on the next "good" one you find, Todd. Any car 20 years old (more or less) will be imperfect, but you need to enjoy it while you can.

When my dad was a struggling sports reporter a long long time ago, he had the oppurtunity to do a story on Chick. He said it was one of the best conversations he had ever had. Chick was a true gentleman and a kind perosn. 30 years after the first interview, my dad could still call and get free tickets. We didn't do that, but it just says a little something about him. A legend has definitely passed away and Laker games won't be the same.
Yeah, now go out and get that Porsche.

If one were to go through life with his eyes open, he would be constantly reminded that life is worth living. It doesn't last forever. Every moment is an opportunity to live, no matter the cost.
