Calling all my fellow 915 rebuild team members.......
I FINALLY received my 2 sliders in order to proceed with the 915 reassembly. After taking my 1/2 slider out the box, it looked rather 'honkin'. I.e. the teeth on this puppy makes a German Sheppard look like a poodle. I of course checked the part no. 930.302.411.02 - CRAP!!! another TURBO part!!!!! I thought there was a specific slider for the 915 and the 930 trans - i.e. both different with different part numbers. Can anyone tell me what part no. I should have for the 1/2 slider? If I can use the turbo part without worry fine, it just looks different than my original if I remember correctly. thanks

What year and 'Type Number' (e.g., 915/08, etc) 915 are you putting this 1/2 slider into?
The one you got is the part listed in the Parts and Technical Reference Catalog for '78-'86 915's and is of the asymmetric-style 1st gear dog teeth design!

the symmetrical type sleeve is NLA, as far as i know. you have to change the 1st gear press on teeth to use the asymmetrical sleeve. the teeth and sleeve need to match. the 1st and 2nd brake band and stop dogs have been updated too. might as well swap the 2nd gear teeth too, as 1st and 2nd both tend to loose their teeth with age, causing the syncro ring to pop out and possibly damage other bits in the trans.

See:
915 1st gear synchro upgrade parts list (long and boring unless you need the info) I believe you are interested in Option 4; post 1977 with asymmetrical 1st gear synchro hub upgrade. Your 1/2 slider (operating sleeve) part number is only different by the last character (.02 instead of .01) from the nuumber I researched and listed. This last character change probably means just a slight improvement in the part and that it will still work. I assume you received an asymmetrical 1st gear synchro hub (dogteeth) too. Asymmetrical in this case means the point of the teeth is formed by unequal facets or sides. You must use an asymmetrical synchro hub with the asymmetrical 1/2 slider. Thanks guys!
I do have the later style asymmetrical synchro hub on 1st. I have replaced both hubs on 1&2, and will check the new slider to ensure it matches the teeth on each hub without worry. So long as the slider fits well with each hub I guess she's a go!

Remember that the asymmetrical teeth on synchro hub and slider mesh (point at each other) when you assemble the shaft. Cheers, Jim
