84' rear speakers
My 84' has was look to be 4x6 speakers that either don't work or the fader doesn't. The speakers appears to be top mounted but they don't come up. Any common issues with the rear speakers? How do I get them out?

Gadjet, I think the easiest way to remove the speakers is to pull out the rear shelf. It is secured by several screws on either side of the rear seat back panel. Not difficult. It comes out as a big piece.

Before messing with the speakers, check the speaker/fader connector in the passenger footwell to see if the rear speaker wiring is still there and intact. You'll need to remove the carpet and the wooden floorboard. There are a number of connectors in that area. The speaker/fader one will have all brown and brown/red wires.

No connectors under there. The wires are there and in a neat harness arrangement. There is a box like circuit embedded in the floor. The Box has two coils on it. No problems under the footboard as far as I can tell. Easy way to get to the fader? It's hard to believe both speakers are blown.

Gadget, just like P11Dad say just take the rear deck with speaker so you can test them outside. Then do a bit of trace back from the speakers wires to the fader, which messes up once it gets too old. I by passed mine and reused the speakers wires but going directly to my head unit. Unless you have the original Blaupunkt and want to keep everything original, then getting a new fader and re-running the wires would do the trick, besides getting a new set of speakers. Good luck!

Old thread I know. I popped up one of the speakers and did a 9 volt battery test. I think the speaker is dead. It's to pop those things up.
