Bad wheel bearings - How do I tell.
I've got a strange rythmic noise coming from the right front. It's not a bad tire - I don't feel any vibration. Anyway I'm replacing the front discs and pads this weekend - how to I check the bearings?

If it's a rhythmic rumbling, roaring noise, then it's probably bearings. Also, if it is speed-dependent only. That is, if you get going so it is plenty audible, push in the clutch and coast and the noise is still there, slowly lowering as the car slows, then it is a wheel bearing.
After you raise the wheel but before you remove stuff, pry the brake pads away from the disk and spin the wheel. If it's not smooth as butter, then the bearing is bad. When you remove the bearing and clean it, if it has any visible defect, it is bad. You'd be surprized how much noise a small pit on the bearing can produce. If you replace the bearings and races, be VERY CAREFUL driving the races out and in. Heat the hub first and be very careful. Those are aluminum hubs.

just to add to what superman said. jack up the front of the car and spin the wheels. the good one will spin without noise (might have a slight grinding of brakes) and the bad one will rumble - but you'll hear the difference.
do a search on replacement. i just did one of mine.
