1987 911 G50 transmission mounts
Has anyone purchased the PEL-RSRMTM bushings and installed them in an 87 to 89 transmission crossmember?

That's not going to work. The bushings in the G50 are pressed in vs. being bolted in like in the 915 trans. Your best bet is to go with something like a WEVO
Welcome to Windrush Evolutions - WEVO - Porsche Products I have both in my car, blue pillows for the motor and black pillows for the trans (I wish I had gone with the blue pillows in the trans) and I really like how the combination had really firmed things up in the drivetrain.

Yes, I have installed the PEL-RSRMTM bushings on my 87. Each side consists of a two part bushing, and it does require you to remove (gouge out) the single piece original.
The originals were dried and compressed, and the new bushings helped firm things up. While shifting was improved, there is a bit more trans noise in the cabin but nothing I am upset over. You can always upgrade to the WEVO's but you'll need to send in the mount as a core.

How difficult is it to remove the old bushings and install the new ones? Do you need any special tools? thanks.

It isn't too difficult at all. You jack the car and support the transmission. Remove the 19mm long bolts and then the 4x 13mm nuts. You can pry or press out the old bushings but I don't have a press and prying was problematic, so I just cut mine out.
Then I just re-assembled, finger tighten bolts and nuts - then torque long bolts 58 ft-lbs and 18ft-lbs for the smaller nuts. ![]() ![]()

Thanks to steely, not for emphatically guessing
But instead for having the facts. For some time now, there has been all sorts of jibber-jabber on the subject. Nice to see someone tried, was successful and posted results. With pix even. To that point, in your pic I noticed a bit of "swell" or "squish" from the lower bushings. Were the overall dimensions of the new bushings after installation the same as original? Ie: did the bolt sleeve end surfaces sit flush with the end surfaces of the bushings?

Hi NG, Thanks and You are welcome. First let me say that there are many here who have probably tried both methods (the G50 after market parts I got, and the WEVO alternative). I took the least expensive route because I thought it needed to be done and the price was right.
I also figured that later - if I got more money - I could try the wevo method, but at the time I thought it was for the folks who had much more experience and knew exactly what they were looking for. I was content to try this path - I can always try the wevo later I figured, but right now I have no real desire. I have a targa and the cabin noise is already a bit high, If I had a coupe, I might might complain more about the definite increase in transmission noise, but since she is already a bit loud and a targa (no top sometimes), I figured wtf. As for your question, I cannot give you a truly educated response except to say that the bolt sleeve is a finite length. In my mind I figured that bolt torque is reached when the bolt is tight against the sleeve and jammed against the trans on top. To me then, the rubber just seems to isolate the mounting bracket a little bit from the sleeve. I do not think the rubber is compressed by the bolt too much, but by the weight of the transmission trying to hang down on the rubber bottom half. I did think that the metal washer seemed dimpled, so there may have been some compression going on. I also felt that I was a bit limited since I thought the rubber would compress a tad more. And I felt that tranny noise came thru to the cabin a bit more. I recall noticing it and not being impressed, but it doesn't bother me as much as it did. On the plus side, the tranny does seem a tad (unmeasured) higher because she really does shift easier. I think (or imagine) this to be because the transmission is higher than with the original (saggy/compressed) bushing which probably exhibited some cold flow after 25+ years which affected the alignment of the shifter rod and coupler into the trans. When I installed the bushings, as recommended, I had to support the trans. When the mount was installed, and I removed the trans support jack, only then did I notice the bottom bush half get a bit compressed. I will try to post a bigger pic. Did I do it right - well, I followed the instructions. Is it what everybody wants? I dunno, but it really was an economical fix with good parts that I could do myself - But I don't have any experience with a wevo setup. So I won't say I am biased, I only have one set of data to share. If you have a friend with wevo, try it out. Also, there are many other posts/threads here on this subject. Sorry for the long-winded amateur explanation, and good luck with your choice.

You did a really nice job on getting your car's crossbeam cleaned up.

Great feedback steely
Very promising, I'll place my order now. When they do come in ill take some measurements, confirm the specs and post my results as well. Oh, when you placed the new bushings in the holes on the mount, did they seem to fit snug in both of the recessed circular steps? Thanks again in advance. Good work. Way to know.

@michael lang: Thanks chief - I forget what I used to clean it - may have cheated and used brake cleaner (chemicals in a can). before pic below.
@no guessing - I hope it helps - again, I'm no guru my friend. Pelican offered it and I am a happy non-expert. The 2-part assembly was loose until I bolted it up, so I can't really say with conviction from memory that it was snug. Although I don't recall any obvious fitments issues as I put her together. There was some minor probs starting the bolts tho'. But I have to say I was successful in a subsequent R&R of same when I need to drop the mount during the course of replacing the fuel lines in the tunnel. ![]() ![]()

Please note that the original metal bushing disks/washers were rusted - I think I may have just cleaned and re-used. Also there may be some thread around here regarding which parts is up and which is down (lower).
