Cool Ramps and Tensioners...Final Question.......I Hope

Pleaasse....one final question about chain ramps. First time I did this type job and I'm having mechanics remorse! I put the suckers in, got them straignt under the chain, tightened the bolts/pins down. I get a little play when I try wiggling them with my finger. Should I worry? It's not a lot, I know this is really stupid, and I don't think they (the inner ones...the ones in question) move any more than the outer ones. But I have this ugly picture....lonely OK road....late night....oil dripping...plastic dripping, wolfs circling....it's ugly! What do ya'll think?

Also, when I hand crank the engine (to detect binding) I should crank it around 10 times? And "binding" will be obvious...right??

OBTW, on the bright side this job was excellent! Truely found out how easy it can be when you get the right tools! Didn't remove the distributor, had to cut off the old oil line....the rest was cake! If all is ok, should be back on the road Sunday!

thanks

Rob

Rob,

Don't worry! The chain-wheel carrier is free to move back-and-forth slightly, and so are the ramps.

Agreed. Relax. I think you're the guy who said he wired and blocked the chains so that slippage was virtually, if not totally, impossible. That being the case, button her up and go for a drive.

If you were worried about chain slippage, and if you had the P207 tool and a dial indicator, then this would be the right time to check the cam timing. But if you don;t have those tools, I wouldn't worry about it as long as I were confident that the chains did not slip on the cam sprockets or the crank sprockets.

And finally, when you do start it up, you may hear a slight growling. The growling will subside in just a couple of seconds when oil pressure hits the tensioners, but may not go away completely. Relax. Normal. Enjoy. Congratulations.

Thanks guys...feel better, but I will still crank by hand first (tomorrows project), tighten down the covers and fire her up (ahh, can't forget to adjust the valves first ). Have been taking my time with this project and after 2 weeks (yes, it's been 2 weeks) the end is in sight!

Thanks again all!!

Rob
