So I got a 3D printer and I'm going to print out a clock delete...

I'd like to use the clock area for an iPhone holder.

If I print something out with an 80mm diameter, does anyone know if it will fit? I'm basing that measurement on this:

Original Porsche 911 912E 930 914 Clock Gasket 80mm | eBay

Thanks!

Why don't you measure the hole in your 86 Coupe?

CiscoSF 08-15-2013 06:20 PM

Because I'm at work and the 911 is at home. I did a little research online and it looks like someone else measured the clock as a hair thinner than 80mm.

For posterity, here's the 3D file: http://www.thingiverse.com/thing:134411

The measurements I ended up using are 80mm for the plug and 84mm for the outer lip.

How about, tail light housing. Just throwing it out there.

I'm a little late but my clock measures 79.99mm and the clock hole measures 86.46mm.

Let us know when you go into production...I need a clock block off plate. :) -J

I'm doing the same as a holder for an AEM AFR gauge

Just of curiosity, what does a 3 D printer cost & how much to make a piece

Cheap but apparently pretty good :

If you're ok with prototype quality and don't care about the color, PM me your address.

We paid $2200 for a Makerbot Replicator 2. Making a piece is probably less than $1.

The quality is decent but not amazing. It's definitely a prototyping machine.

Seems to me that these printers could be a real boon to the restoration hobby! How many old, pot metal pieces could now be easily reproduced? Just need to get the programming and go to town!

Somehow, I don't think it's quite that easy.

CiscoSF 08-16-2013 03:39 PM

So I'm happy using one from my printer, but if anyone wants a production quality one, I've uploaded the file to Shapeways (https://www.shapeways.com/model/1279224/1969-1989-porsche-911-clock-delete.html) if you'd like to order from them.

I hate to say this but I mutilated a perfectly good clock for an AFR gauge pod. The seller thought it was broke but easily got working.

Would have totally paid one on you guys to make me one. I feel guilty....

The whole thing kinda blows my mind- Just sayin:)

I have a 3d printer. I have made quite a few car parts for the 911. Let's see. 930 efi injector.blocks. MFI to efi adapters, twin plug adapters., intake insulators, ITB dapters, etc. I am only limited by my CAD skills. A clock delete has already been drawn up. Although mine has a cutout for an LCD readout for an EFI system. It is one of the best tools I hav purchased in recent years.

Tippy 08-16-2013 07:40 PM

Jamie, I was watching some hotrod show on TV and saw some company who makes stupidly easy CAD software. Sorry I can't remember the name though.....
