lug nut removal-seriously

So seriously, the PO totally jacked up this aluminum lug nut. I can't say I've ever seen anything like this. The only think I can think of is drill out the wheel stud. I've tried tightening down the other lug nuts to see if it will loosen up the "jacked up" lug nut (for lack of a better word). It's like a threaded ball type washer now. Unbelievable what some people do.

Easy peasy. Remove other 4 nuts and drive car till problem is resolved.

But seriously, could you use a small punch or chisel to break remaining piece out?

Or could you remove other nuts a few threads and start rocking car or prying out on wheel with super long pole until nut breaks?

I don't have a better idea than yours (if the lug nut is aluminum, can you just drill that out carefully instead of the harder steel stud?), but just don't do what this guy did:

So, Dont buy a VW - Honda-Tech

I tried the punch and chisel but didn't want to damage the wheel. They are only cookie cutters, but I may use them for my hot rod project. They are so light.

Okay, I couldn't sleep thinking about it. Right or wrong I drilled it out. I love my Makita 18v drill gun. It didn't take as long as I suspected it would, roughly 45min, two battery packs, and some oil to keep the bit somewhat cool.

oh damn. wish i had seen this. Sears sells these enormous lugnut removal "bolt outs".

they have saved my butt, many a time. usually to save a neighbor, when i open my big mouth and say.."i can get that".

drilling takes big brass stones..well done.

Common problem, if you tighten to much or the nuts are old and worn the hex part can break off.

If you had done a search here you would probably found the answer, use a hole saw that's big enough to fit over the stud and drill out the remaining lug.
But your method worked as well

I don't really have the size hole saw I need for this job, so fortunately I had enough sharp drill bits.

Noted. Thank you. Hopefully, I will not have to deal with that again.
