Front sway bar removal
 

Last year, while replacing my fuel pump, I attempted to remove my front sway bar. The sway bar ends are on the lower control arms in a way that seemed to keep me from removing the bar.

My manual indicates that once the center links are removed, the front bar should come out, but it looks to me that I will need to unbolt one of the lower control arms.

I want to repaint my bars and install polyurethane bushings. What am I missing? This should be an easy job.

You do have to remove one of the A arms to remove and replace the sway bar. Wayne has the procedure written up in his 101 Projects book, but it is pretty straightforward.

Thank you for your reply. I have that book and looked it over. I've rebuilt torsion bar front ends on old MOPARs. On this front end, it looks like the torsion bar adjuster needs to be undone to release pressure on the bar. I imagine that I will need to measure the car's height and thread count of the torsion bar adjuster in order to return the front end to it's approximate former adjustment.

A question for those who have done this job before...........Do you have to get the front end re-aligned after reassembly?

I've only done this once, and was totally redoing everything so it all came apart and reassembled. That said, simply (easier said than done sometimes :)) remove the A-arm and use that to leverage the sway bar back into position. Though I had everything apart, you shouldn't have to change the T-bars or do anything that would impact alignment imo...
