Any way to stop peeling paint.....

Got my 912E today - nice car - bad paint.

Typical 1976 fault - peeling paint. I dont want to repaint the car now - just stop the peeling and touch up the bare spots.

Any ideas to stop the peeling?

Cheers,

Christian

ThereŽs no silver bullet unfortunately. All you can do is treat the bad spots until you decide on a date for a respray. IŽd just sand the spot and around it until you have something you can work with. Get a can of matching paint and touch it up so its protected. A bit of wet sanding and polish might help iron out the colour differences somewhat but if the peeling is bad and rust a cars worst enemy IŽd think about getting it done sooner than later

Thanks a lot. Will try that. The surface is clean and "zincy" - no rust. I just dont want to peel away untill there is no more paint on the car

Could you get one of those matching color finger nail polish touch up bottles and "glue" the peeling? Don'know the extent.

Did not know peeling was a common problem. First year with full zinc hot dip though, right?

I would definitely "feed" your remaining paint as well to help abate more peeling. Paint loses oils over time and exposure and you get cracking as the paint becomes brittle. Replace the lost oils with an appropriate polish.

My 912E was the same way. I was told at one point that the factory galvenizing process was done overkill, and that somehow prevented the paint from sticking well over time. Mine sat out in the rain with bare metal exposed and did not rust... stayed gray and chalky. Crazy.

At repaint time, what needs to be done to insure this doesnt happen with the new paint?
