White Gauges

My '86 GP White Cab has white gauges. How can I find out if they came with the car from the factory or if someone changed them at one time?

Most likely a previous owner modification.

I dont see any VDO markings on the face plates, and they dont appear factory.

I'm not sure this was ever a factory option? A lot of cars in the 80's and 90's were converted. I have a 91 964 that has white guages, NH Speedo will be converting back to standard faceplates this winter.

Yes, they look like overlay. Mine have VDO marking on all of them but I'm not sure if it was a factory option either.

Yours look even different than mine. Your fuel and oil gauges are a mix of black and white. I think I will have mine converted to black during the next winter when the car is in storage.

Joe Bob is right.

Regardless of VDO markings etc, as far as I know custom colour gauge faces (from the factory) are a very recent thing.
Although, with the "special wishes" department anything was possible. Like leather covered switch knobs

997 Turbo yellow gauge faces from the factory! (not my pic)

If they are overlay, you might be able to peel off the one in the back ground to reveal the black version.

Was going to mentioned the Sonderwunsch-Program but then again its just putting oil on the fire...

Mine were done at the factory by the Exclusiv department when I had my '96 Turbo built.

I can say with a fair degree of confidence that this is an aftermarket product installed by a PO within the last decade.

Yours look just like mine. Mine is an 86 coupe, and the white gauge faces were aftermarket done by a previous owner.
