Installing Alternator in Fan Housing - something not right?

Hi guys,
my 3.0 engine rebuild is progressing, recently installed SSI's and Dansk, still rebuilding carbies, and tonight have just been testing the fitting of Alternator to Fan housing, something is not right

The alternator has 6 Allen Key head bolts running through it which pass through holes in the fan housing. The plastic cooling fin hub extension is also to be bolted on the back.

These picture below show the bolts, with clearly not enough thread to take the nuts

what's going on here, these bolts are 11cm long, do i have mismatched fan housing and alternator or do i just get longer bolts?

cheers

Assuming that you are using a pair of parts that fit properly before you disassembled them, then the corrosion on the inside of the mount is preventint the alternator from fully seating. Or you may be putting an SC alternator into a 3.2 mount -- the SC alternator is shorter than the 3.2's.

I found it helpful to back the screws out on the alternator so they're flush. Insert the alternator into the housing, then thread the bolts through the housing. Installing and tightening the three nuts that don't hold the air diverter on will fully seat the alternator.

Something not right all-right - wrong fan housing, had it machined out.
cheers

Put the fan on the alternator and assemble the unit and see where the fan sits in relation to the housing. It looks like you have a mismatched alternator and housing.
