will older WUR work

I have installed a wide band LM1 in my 83 911 SC and have the engine running good. I am not making it a permanent install and now that I have the AFR numbers where I want them i will return to the original O2 sensor. I also have a spare wur from a 1978 and am wondering if I can get better results using it in my 83. It has a vacuum connection which I understand leans out the mixture when intake vacuum is present, ie part throttle and decel. i would use this instead of lambda and vacuum retard and I am wondering if i could adjust for a richer full throttle AFR and have it lean out under high vacuum for low and mid range driveability and economy. Anyone using a vacuum assisted WUR on a later SC?
