Question Targa latching to windshield frame

Question regarding latching down a Targa top:

The piece behind the windshield frame that the targa top latches into... with the top off and looking down at the windshield frame, there are a couple of slots on left and right side that the targa top latches into. Are these slotted plates replaceable? (not just the black anodized pieces that screw down on top of the slots).

Hope I am explaining this properly.

Thanks,
Markus

Yes they are replacable. That's the good news. Bad news is they are in the $260 (ea) neignborhood. They are called Targa top latches.

I'm actually thinking not of the latches themselves but of the slotted pieces in the windshield frame that they latch into.

Markus,
Yep, we're talking the same part. The slotted thingy held on with 4 bolts to the windshield frame .... the top's T studs slide down into it and then you lock with a L shaped handle. Search our host's parts list...the price I quoted was from another catalogue.

Ted, thanks for your replies. I checked Pelican's catalogue and didn't see it though. Darren was kind enough to fax me the microfiche but I'm still not sure what part it is. I removed the black anodized plates on the windshield header last night but don't see any bolts there for attaching the inner slots separately. I hope I'm wrong but it looks to me like the slots are integrated into the windshield header itself and not a separate unit.

I'm hoping you're right that it's a separate unit but just don't know the part numbers. Also wondering if '86 may have a different Targa latching mechanism from the earlier cars? Wondering if it's more like that used in the cabriolet.

Markus-
you are correct - starting in '86 there was a new Targa latching mechanism (I think). At the least the latching handles are different from '85 & earlier cars.

can't help with your first question though.

the slots are part of the windshield frame. welding and reshaping would be the repair method. the outer covers are just decoration.
