Options for SC air box cover?

Are there any aftermarket options for the 3.0 CIS airbox lid. I think it is the ugliest part of the engine. I know that there is no gain in changing it to a cone filter and I am not interested in doing anything like that. I just want to dress up my engine compartment a little and that big black box on top is a little ugly.

In my opinion the 3.2 Carrera engine is the prettiest Porsche engine ever, but I'm stuck with my SC for the moment so I'd like to make it look as pretty as possible.

Fabspeed makes a neat looking carbon cover that replaces the stock air filter.

Does Fabspeed = $$$$?

I seem to remember seeing a type of air box on a modified SC that had a long slot on the front of the airbox pointing toward the deck lid grill. It looked much more purposefull than the stock SC box, and a cleaner look too. I'll see if I can find a picture of it somewhere.

Jorge (Targa Dude) made one out of metal, looked like a CTR cover.

Details here:

Wow, that is exactly what I was thinking of!!! Have any of these ever been made?? That looks so much better than the ugly stock box. I would buy one of these if they were available.

Here are a few pics of the ones made by FabSpeed. The only thing that I dont care for is that they are not made from real carbon fiber but a CF looking plastic.

Here is an old thred about the same topic
Check out the new Fabspeed airboxes

I agree. I am not a huge fake carbon fiber fan. Plus, it's $175 for the thing. And an extra $30 for red straps!

Lets petition Jorge (Targa_dude) to make a batch for everyone!

Wow, Targa Dudes is awesome.
btw on a SC, what's the large flexible hose that runs across the upper center part of the engine?

I'm in agreement. The air filter isn't a looker by any means. But $175 better put two or three more horsepower in the mix.

Hmmm...has anyone heard from Targa Dude to see if he could build more of them? I'm all for dressing up the engine, as long as it's functionally better, i.e. more horses.

Maybe a group buy of these airbox covers could make the price per unit go down. Doesn't hurt to ask. I might be interested in the vaulted design if the price was right

It's not possible to fit a cone filter to CIS anyway, is it?

I've seen a cone advertised by a Pelican competitor but I don't understand how it would work with an SC since the current airbox is intregral to theoperation of the car.

I sent Jorge a PM so well see if he replys to the thread.

Even if a cone or the redesigned air box doesnt offer any increase in performance Id still be interested in anything other than "The Snorkel" design.

Simon - thanks for doing that. I like the idea of a group buy, but I'm not sure Jorge could produce these in mass.

The Fabspeed "sunny day" filter is nice, but Jorge's is better looking by far.

Might we consider a group buy from Fabspeed if Jorge is not up to the task of production of his design?

OK, Guys here's the deal.. when I fabbed mine it was mainly to see if it could be done by DYI fer's. TerryBPP from the board and I threw the idea around for awhile and it was because of his persistance that I decided to go for it.
The plan was I would do design and documentation which I did. When I completed the drawings I sent them to him. he was going to fab one out of fiberglass and I was going to fab mine out of sheet metal.
to this day I don't know if he ever finished his or not.
From its inception I never really planned on mass producing these boxes
but after a little bit of interest that came from my initial thread I did look into having them Thermalformed per Island911 advice, Well for me to go that route would have been very expensive and not to mention pricey for all interested. I looked into have them reproduced out of sheet metal like mine but the low volume still made it to expensive for me to pursue. I don't have a problem at all sending the drawings to anyone that wishes to fabricate one for themselves, just let me know.
