Decklid Alignment with Dual Stuts
So recently I bought the dual deck lid strut kit that our host sells. Unfortunately it has screwed up the alignment of my deck lid. My Question is could it be aligned properly without having to fabricate or drill a passenger side mount for another strut. Here are pictures to help
Hood straight back and closed. http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1378240583.jpg Driver Side Hood closed. You can see that it is raised significantly http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1378241352.jpg Passenger side Hood Closed. You can see that it is practically sitting on the light lenses. http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1378241402.jpg Driver Side Gap. Plenty of space to work with. http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1378241463.jpg Passenger Side Gap. Very close and needs shifted to left. http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1378241512.jpg Kit installed as instructions show. Kit is sold by host and consist of high quality parts. Yes i know the heater hose isn't properly attached to blower. http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1378241583.jpg passenger side firewall were a factory installed strut mount would be but isn't since only car is only SC and not 930 http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1378241695.jpg Lastly, Here is the passenger side hinge. http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1378241758.jpg I was thinking that maybe if I were to elevate the Passenger side Whale tail mounts by adding washers or another U washer to hinge that the gap might not be so significant when closed. I know how to align it one the bottom gab is good. But is there any other way to make gap even without having to mount another strut mount on passenger side. Thanks. |

I would start by loosening the right rear rubber bumper on the corner of the engine lid.
I would go 1 full turn. This will raise that corner some and apply a little downward tweak on the left rear corner. Also assuming you have 2 adjustment shims on left hinge same as the right hinge in your photo? I would remove the shim(s)? closest to the front of the car. This will tip the leading edge of the lid down more. If these changes don't help enough you can either move the rear striker and/or latch pin to the left some (this will pull the lid left to close that gap some. OR slightly loosen all 4 hinge bolts and then lean on the right side of the lid, pushing it slightly leftward. Then re-tighten bolts. Keep in mind, if you adjust the latch don't get the lid stuck closed! I have been through these adjustments on my SC as well as several customer cars. Cooper |
