Help Identifying 911 Seats

Hey all,

Would love if someone would let me know what year these seats are from. Looking to order upholstery but not sure if they are 69 - 73 or 74 - 80.

So do you think they are salvageable with just new upholstery???

Hard to tell from one photo. You may need some new foam, too. I'd also check the frames for cracks. The seat on the right side in the photo looks a little funky. This is a job I'd have a good upholstery shop perform.

Those seats look like my original 1979 seats.

well it is my understanding the seats would be from a 911 range of 74 - 86......

There are three generations of the highback seats. The first generation ended in 1980. The next version ran from 1981 thru 1984. The third generation started in 1985 and was quite a bit different. These seats sat taller, the backrest was more forward at the top, electic adjustment became available, etc.

And, there were several variations in the way the covers were sewn, etc.

The seats in my '74 have the round wheel to adjust the seat recline and they are definitely the original seats.

You know, now that I think about it, you are correct. The early sport seats had the levers. These seats are a little later than yours, as the pleated headrests started in 1977. So, maybe they are a few years older than I was thinking.

Yeah, that was noted above. I'm used to the sport seats, as every 911 I've owned since 1980 has had them, so it's been a while since I had to think about the standard seats... I've edited my posts.

My '83SC has the sport seats and they are original. The recline adjustment is same as these seats. The later seats ('84-up) Porsche used seats that had the seatback release lever on both sides of the seat. In my car and as is with these seats, the release is only on one side. So the seats pictured are standard seats are from the SC years, back. Looking at these seats, the one on the left would be the driver's seat. I would venture to guess that they are actually prior to the SCs. The "head rest" on my car are smooth as I believe the standards seat were for the SCs.

In '84 the seats, sport or not, have the backrest release button on the outside only. It is in '85 that the release button is on 2 sides, and that the electric adjustments became available. These can very well be '84, as displayed in the '84 911 catalog I have at home.
