I am about to do my first oil change on my 87 carrera. I am confused as to the torque values on the crankcase and supply tank. According to Wayne's book "101 Projects" the torque value is the same on both, 31 ft. lbs. But according to the Bentley book, Porsche 911 Carrera Service manual the torque on the supply tank is 31 ft. lbs, and the torque on the crankcase is 51 ft.lbs. Need your help as I do not want to over or under torque crankcase nut. Which one do I use?

Don't have my manual in front of me, but a good rule on ALL vehicles is to use common sense. Tighten until plug seats, then turn slightly more as you feel crush-washer compress. Idea is to tighten ONLY enough so that it doesn't leak or come loose. Comfy-tight is the way I would describe it. Good luck.

Surprizingly ... the spec book says Bentley is right ... 70 Nm & 42 Nm ...

My case plug does not actually go into the case. It goes into a steel sump plate. I know that later cars lack the sump plate, so I wonder if those plugs screw into the aluminum case. If so, I would not trust the 51 lb/ft figure.

Carrera 3.2s don't have the steel sump plate, the 31 lb, ft. torque setting is for the early steel sump.
