019 MFI 2.8 ... help identifying
 

I know this is a 019 RS MFI system but have not seen the 2.8 stamp... could this be from an RSR??

The pump is August 1971, so probably a 2.4 converted to 2.8. the 019 is re-stamped. Not a factory 2.8 pump. Gled

Probably a pump modified by Gus Pfister at Pacific Fuel Injection. He does that so he knows what space cam is inside the pump. He gets so many pumps that he needs to keep track somehow because the pumps all look the same on the outside.

We used to send pumps to Gus for repair or rebuild. Have never seen him stamp a factory tag with any info.

Guys on the early S registry mention that he does the overstamping if you have him modify the pump. One guy would have asked him not to stamp it but Gus had not told him he was going to do it.

Definitely not an 019 pump - they are bare metal rather than black. And weren't the 2.8RSR pumps Kugelfischer?

SCRS used Kugelfischer. I think perhaps the early MFI like on the 906E could have been Kugelfischer but as far as I know everything until the SCRS was Bosch.

My 019 is not nearly as shiny as that one. But it is not as black as the first one. Depending on who does your pump though they can be different colors. I thought they were Magnesium so the black coating is some sort of chromate conversion coating to stave off corrosion. I think it is Koller and Schwemmer who paint the barometric cell gold and make the pumps dark.

Gus paints the cells gold too, he restamped mine to 019 she he modified from 2.4s to 2.7. The earlier pumps were black.
