There are plenty of Porsche drivers who are older and may not have a smart phone or be savvy on the Internet. Assuming everybody knows how to access information as readily as we do is a little centric. -- Matt

That's why God invented grandkids.

I guess my point was that if sweating the details of a transaction is important to an individual, he'll figure out a way to get it done. If, on the other hand, price is more important, then caveat emptor.

My experience has been that the younger generation needs more guidance in matters like this than the old guys. The old guys didn't get to where they are by being foolish. And, around here, all of my friends in that age group (60-75) had a smart phone long before I even had a phone with a camera in it. I don't know a single soul that has no internet access. Not one...

Sorry if you feel I'm a little harsh. I've just spent a lot of my career teaching Life 101 to people who should know better. It's made me a little grumpy.

I agree with your comments about life 101.

A lot of those lessons seem to be forgotten by people when they begin working electronically, and the image of safe and secure seems to be implied somehow.

In the old days if you had a real sign on your shop versus one made of cardboard and crayons, that carried some weight. Now days everyone has electronic crayons so you can't tell them apart, and it leads to otherwise intelligent people feeling comfortable clicking "buy" when they see an electronic shopping cart, wether it is legit or not, or somewhere in between like ebay and that shipping site.

I like that unobtanium-inc took the time to post this to raise awareness.

So how did this all turn out?

afterburn 549 09-29-2013 07:02 AM

When I used to list with USHIP ............
Over and over again I would get calls from customers telling me Brand X would move their stuff cheaper .That I had to beat that price (which was ridicules too cheep !)
Over and over again I would ask them -
Can they-
1- Do they provide you with a certificate of insurance?
2 - Guarantee a delivery date?
3 - Provide a long list of satisfied customers? ( or even a couple ? )
4 - - Use only "air ride equipment"
I NEVER had one person reply with a "YES" to all the above.
No Never
BUT they were willing to risk it with the Road Pirates.
Uship dose not even carry a "broker" Licensee last time i checked or DOT numbers !
They bypass all the laws somehow....
One will never ever get a dime of compensation from them. (when crap goes wrong)

Thankfully the car arrived unharmed. This was a project car going for a full restoratiuon, so it was not in paint, had some body dings, etc. If it had been a finished car, who knows?

U-Ship is how I got involved with Kurt Keiper... he shipped my Unimog to MT and that transaction was OK. He then sold myself and my father-in-law some equipment that didn't exist.

On the upside, he is doing 12.5 - 78 years in Camp Hill, Pa for Theft by Deception...

Despite all this U-Ship wont remove his profile... SUMMIT TRANSPORT LLC. - Sunbury, Pennsylvania | Get Quotes for Transport

In my case I received the certificate of insurance, many referals of past jobs, license number, web site, and other convincing documents. Very good fabrications.

Anyone around Dallas seen pieces of my car? Josh Slusser? Reward for information/investigation is ready.

After seeing the bitter sweet beginnings thread on the 964 Rennlist forum, i sure would be wary about having a car parked above mine, while in transit.
Battery acid nightmare.
