911 Buying Checklist

As I wait for fundage to buy my future toy (& read & learn), I made up a checklist that might be of interest to other shoppers.

I can email a pdf version if anyone would like one.

Let me know if I left anything out . . .

Ian

I'm all for details but I am having trouble understanding how you will be actually using this. It is not like you are going to be shopping in a parking lot of old 911's and then go home and use your checklist to tally up your final votes. From my own experience of buying one (an 89 with 49K) and my brothers (87 with 105K), they usually come one at a time and a decision is made. Its kind of a visceral thing. Of course get a PPI which is 90% of the decision process. Then its whether you like it or you don't. It doesnt hurt to have a guide such as you've made to at least make you check the obvious problem area's if that is what it's intention is for. I'll give you my example. I wanted an 87-89 in fair shape. The first one I looked at I bought. I had less miles on it then I intended. It was kept in a carpeted heated garage in this guys garage facility. And it was more then I wanted to spend. I've never regretted it to this day. I think if I would of went home and pondered it, it would of been snapped up by the next guy. Good luck and fortunately you have this board for help.

I live in Canada. That means that:

1) Available Porsches are much fewer
2) Local cars are expensive

This means that I will be doing a lot of shopping long distance south of the border. Followed up with visits south. This list I can fax & email & use a a phone checklist.

Now it might make more sense . . .

You are going to fax this to a stranger in the States who will then give you a subjective rating of 1-9 for acceleration, transmission, etc, and also peer into the engine and find broken head studs.

No, its not making any sense.
