Trying to decide if to go with 911s or a 964.
I know for a fact that I will be modding the hell out of it.
Can you help me out?
I dont want to make it just a track car, but one to do it all

911s with a 964 engine in it

what are you actually going to do with the car and what are your goals for it? racing? hot street car? ect.

Just own it and enjoy. Make it fast around the corners and maybe a little in the straight line.
I have though always loved the look of the 964 and it has been my dream car since I saw it the first time.

In general, the 964 will be cheaper to purchase. The 964 will have (working) AC. Those two issues can/will be major issues for many.

I think the cars are totally different animals, though. You've got to be one of the few people weighing a purchase decision between one of these two models. Best of luck.

Why am I the one of few?

There is this 911s with a SC engine that I can have for 23k dollars. Thats why I am considering it.

I wouldn't hotrod an intact 911S as they are worth a fortune. Hotrod a T.

A hotrod 911 will have better steering turnin than a 964 if you don't put super wide tires on it; is much lighter, but less stiff (TRE can fix that); and the suspension is more fun (i.e. more primitive).

The 964 is more of a cushmobile, but more modern and has the blob-bumpers on it. The looks can be backdated as noted above and it DOES have A/C.

Whatever you do, be sure you have a nice stack of $10,000 bills to toss at your project.

23k seems a little steep to me for a 74 to 77 911s. Not sure what year the car above is but even with a 3 liter that's strong money for mid seventies vintage.

I love the early cars and owned a 76 911s with a 3.2 and an early 911t with a 3.0 both are good fun weekend warriors but not nearly as refined as a 964.

If you like the feel of a much lighter early car then go with the 911s but try to work them down on the price if you can because the mid seventies 911s is not nearly as valuable as a 65 to 73 911s.

When you say strong money you mean a lot of money?

Currently, midyear 911 "S" models are not in the same value category as 67-73 S models. Go to Early911SRegistry.org to be thoroughly educated.

yes, it looks like a "middie" - if so, it is not worth 23k (unless it is a Euro Carrera in which case you would be crazy to modify it)

it should be "cheap" - if so, a good car to hotrod

find out the actual year and post; post the VIN; you will need a PPI by a good mechanic who is experienced with old 911s, not just a good mechanic

well, that makes me even more wanting a 964.
I just have always loved them. Also the AC is a plus

They don't make them like they used to. I have a blast in my "middie" as I believe it is delightfully simple relative to more modern cars and I enjoy that refuge from over-tech. Both have their place but for a toy the hotrod "middie" is perfect for those who like to customize. $23k may not be a terrible price for a modded example if the car is "done" and all major areas have been recently restored well. There is a false economy in a lower entry cost... there's no such thing as a "cheap" Porsche, at leas not for long. My $.02.

Thats why I want to get a 911 in the following year. I have 12 months to make it happen. The dream that is :D
