Electric Antenna Recommendations?

I need a new antenna; the old one was stripped out and thrashed. It has to be black, and I'm not interested in one of the $300 OEM jobbies.

Ideas?

Thom, I picked up a new Hirschman antenna off of ebay for about $50. Black mast and mounting. Works great and only took about .5 hour to install. I see them all the time on ebay.

You are looking for the whole unit? That can be hard to find anything aftermarket. Mast alone are easy and available. Hirschmann, just be sure to match up either the toothed model or smooth. My advice on the entire unit is to find someone who has decided to convert their car to a track car, they have no need for theirs and are usually willing to give them to you.

Porsche Crest

I replaced my OEM unit with a newer Hirschmann model but had to add a DPDT switch in order to make it work. I assume the switch was built into the original units housing. Had some guy in Canada give me a quite to rebuild my OEM with whats left of the original stock and quote came out to about $200 when all was said and done. I wasn't too concerned about antenna originality so I opted for the newer model and the switch. Hope this helps.

Thom,

Here's a similar link to the antenna Paul mentioned. He lives right around the corner from my employer so I was able to pick mine up. I'm sure he has both chrome and black ones available. I believe this auction is for a chrome one.

In many cases , unless something is broke the automatic ant. can be just taken apart and cleaned and adjusted. After years of use a lot of gunk builds up inside the housing . this gunk gets onto the tracks and take up wheel and takes away the frictin needed for the thing to work. pull off the cover and and clean the take up wheel and tracks w/ alcohol and adjust the clutch, install new mast. Mine is 25 years old and i did this clean and adjust and it works like new.

Mine was toast. The mast had been bent and un-bent a couple times, and the gear-line was stripped in a couple of places. I'm on the hunt for a Hirschmann. Ironically, I have a couple of NOS Hirschmann antennas in my parts pile, but they're olk-skool non-electric.
