Law yo change in texas

Well, it is not a change, but it will affect a lot of Porsche people. We have always been required to run a front however the police have never been very aggressive in writing people up. Well all that has changed as of about ten days ago.

They have announced that they will be aggressive in their enforcement of the law with a fine of $200. They are not set on trying to make our cars ugly...................They use the front plate as the target for their radar.

You may not recall , but one of the car mags ran radar test and one of the cars they used was a corvette and they found that the radar signature was very small. At first they thought that it was because of the glass body but the reason for the invisibility to radar was because the radiator in the car was angled forward forcing the radar waves on to the road surface.

I do not claim to be any sort of expert, buy there could be an opportunity here/ AS I said before a police officer will site in on the front plate. What would happen if one were to modify the front plate bracket increase the angle of the front plate

just a thought

My guess would be Home Land Security can get a better view of your plates as you go by!

Regarding changing the plate angle - that is illegal in Texas as well (according to my brother the cop).

Some states only issue one plate. This could be interesting for some transiting Tejas now.

1) It ain't Homeland Security....trust me.
2) Texas will probably not cite out-of-stater's for having only one tag, unless they can prove that the driver is a resident of Texas, has resided in Texas for over 30 days, and is the owner of the vehicle in question.
3) I'm probably jinxing myself, but I've been running a German tag in the front for years, and was cited once by TXDPS. I'm pretty sure that TXDPS is the only agency that is aggressively pursuing this. The local yokels out here in the West don't seem to care all that much.

I'm hoping I can keep my German plates on the front of my 82 Euro 928 S --
I run Antiques on the back --

I still can't figure out if I'm allowed on the streets for testing, special events, shows etc
with that car or not.

Now for my 951 -- it's a street/track car -- how do I put a plate on that doesn't affect my aero
or breathing. Any surface on the front of my car is used for air flow
either radiator, brake ducts, intercooler, or oil cooler.

There maybe some legality to mounting it behind the windshield.

Make sure that when you mount the plate it's tilted down slightly.
Even 5 or 10 degrees will do the trick.

I moved to TX a few years ago and on my 1st morning there I got pulled over just down the road from my neighborhood because I didn't have a front license plate, no ticket, just an annoyance while they ran my FL drivers license. Told me to go register my car ASAP. TX police pull over everyone they can for any little thing they can find, I had a few more enjoyable experiences with them for the year I lived there, then I GTFO.

NY requires a front plate. There was no way I was drilling holes in my new 09 TT bumper, so I ran without it with no problem until.....
I went to cross the Whitestone Bridge, a major river crossing in NYC. As I travelled through the EZ Pass lane, a Metro cop stopped me, wrote me up, and it cost me $100.

I have since devised a way to run a plate with no holes in the bumper.

yeah this sucks. I have a front plate on my 930, no problem there is plenty of room.

There is no way I am drilling into the front omy exige which is literally bumperless.

Front plates are also required in the Republic of CA. They are needed for the Fastrak toll system and photo radar.

Can you say "Revenue Opportunities"?

Window tint on the drivers/passenger doors is also prohibited.

it is for Texas registered cars. Texas can't make laws for what people whose cars are registered in other states have to do. Just like CA cannot emissions test my car if I am driving through.

and the 911 already has a massively angled front plate mount (at least the SC).

Revenuers

I'll bet they are planning the Red Light Camera's in the state.....

Like Sergio said, California got extremely agressive just before the Red Light Cameras were deployed.

They put 30 motor cops on a major street in the Valley on a random Tuesday morning several years ago. Wrote EVERYBODY. Made all the local news and the word got out.

Revenuers in town..... The city of L.A. has lost money on the cameras every year since implementation. The company that installed and maintains the cameras have made millions....the city can't efficiently collect the fines.... Scott

They've had red light cameras here for years. In the 28 years I've had my 930 I've been stopped twice for no front license plate. If I had been speeding I'm sure it could have had a different outcome. Both times just a warning. I now have and antique tag on both P-cars now. Only 52 for 4 years and no inspections. A few restrictions but most cops like old Porsches I guess.

Les,

Just registered my '84 in Florida.....lady at DMV dissappears from the counter and comes back with a confused look on her face. Says the "computer" has waived $239 dollars of my Registration Fee, she says "your car is an antique, I've never seen that before".

She handed me one plate and I ran, did not walk to the door..... S

Thinking about doing this also since I have an address down there. Is 28 years old the magic number?
They do issue front plates in FL from what I understand...

No front plates in FL. The DMV here told me recently that the build date on the car has to be 30+ years ago to get an antique plate, so my 86 was denied.
