I love Panteras, being a long time Ford fan, but I dn't like that one! I did see a Pantera with a twin-turbo 351w that I liked though. ;)

UH, 'scuse me if I'm wrong, but wasn't the original Pantera engine location a bit more back then the hood scoop in the pic suggests????????

Paul, I think the large bump covers a third passenger seat - sort of an early version of the 3 seat layout in the McLaren F1-GTR ..... ;) -- Curt

Well...if you can look past everthing that's been done to it; it may have been a Pantera at one time.

Why would anyone do this?

King Size Pantera
 

You can be above average and fit in a Pantera. I had lowered pans and some custom seats made for my 6'6" frame. I sold the car last year to another tall gentleman. For $25k you can find a nice driver. Turns heads lilke crazy, and sets off car alarms everywhere. But it will never handle or be as fast as you want it to be. The Porsche has been much more satisfying in these areas.

Hey guys thats not a real Pantera, its a tube frame race car, Kinda like the super gas cars (you know vettes 40 fords etc) with full fiberglass bodies, Kevin

I use to love the DeTomaso Pantera GTS (and Pantera 2) when I was younger :D It HAD to have the GTS body kit tho ;)

In 1983 i was looking at two cars and trying to decide which one to buy 1. a 72 Pantera, white and only 19k miles for $20,000 2. a red 78 Targa w/ 30k miles for $20,000. I drove both and was impressed buy both-each for different reasons. My wife made the decision- she said the Pantera looked like a stink bug and she would'nt ride in it.
Both cars have a timeless design and still look good 20 years later. The pantera has held its value better than the Porsche. People have told me don't get in a Pantera and try to drive it a thousand miles ,it will beat you to death and you will be hard of hearing when you die-- still want one though.

Before starting to look for 911s and eventually getting my car, I considered buying the 74 GTS my father in law used to own. I eventually sold the car to Dave Adler from Pantera International Motorsports (www.pim.net). Another famous tuner for Panteras is Gary Hall (www.hallpantera.com). Car does look great (not the dragster above) and with modifications, could be a nice driver. They suffer from poor A/C and overheating, poor braking (taking into account the major HP engines most people put), all of which can be modified to take care of these issues, but then you are into upwards of $35K. Back when the cars came out, they were hailed as the best performance for the money. Those 351W engines could stand quite a bit of mods to them. Truthfully if I wanted to build a wicked fast sportscar I'd probably start with a Pantera if only because of my extensive knowledge of Ford engines. But I suppose I'd spent a small fortune getting it to handle as good as a P-car.

I always liked the Mangusta better than the Pantera. Both required extensive work to be reliable ... especially the cooling systems! It seems that high maintenance is a way of life with the Italian 'kit cars' ... and, only slightly better than Lucas in the electrics' dept. ...
