Beautiful "s" Restoration Down Under

I am selling some visors to Clyde (BOYER73S) and thought some members would like to see what the heck he is up to (I have his permission).
For he past 5 years he has been completely restoring one of only 6 RHD 73S's in Australia.
Take a look at this:
http://au.f2.pg.photos.yahoo.com/ph/edylcreyob/album?.tok=phofWgBBHTo5vNq3&.dir=/ebb8&.src=ph
Clyde tells me "It is brand new everywhere" and one can only imagine how many Aussie $ has gone into this.
Can't wait till he digs into his RS.
Fantastic.

I'm sure Clyde will jump in and fill in some details as soon as the sun comes up down there.
Nothing better than a Targa in the land of sun.
Plus, this is a very serious restoration.
Clyde just got his hands on a real RS and plans a similiar restoration of it. Can't wait.
Make sure you keep us in the loop Clyde

Thanks for the nice comments guys but Paul I have always admired your beautiful car, green exterior and brown interior.

It has really been a stupid project, I will own up to that, but I was having withdrawal symptoms for not having owned an F series car for at least 12 months and this genuine Aussie S came up for sale and I couldn't resist. Only 15 S cars made it to Aust in 1973 9 Coupe and 6 Targa.

As many of you would know once you get started its hard to stop and then it gets to a point where you can't stop and that pretty much details what happened in this case.

I had never done a full restoration before although I had done a part one on a 2.4E and a significant one on a 2.4S coupe (should not have sold that one bet you've heard that before also).

I am please with the results thus far and should be finished in the next two or three months with the carpets probably being the biggest hold up. Mark Waring (WWclassics) has the correct carpet apparently but can't get him to supply just yet. Anyone else know of a company doing the correct carpet kits in RHD? I have tried to be faithful to what the factory had done but some minor changes which are not obvious have been made.

The work has been a combination of my hard work and that of specialists far more skilled than I am and I am proud of what we have achieved with this car but hopefully I have learned many new skills and when my last ever restoration begins on RS #101 that I will be able to achieve the same result with less anguish and lots less money!!

As to time well its been 5 years thus far and I was keeping tabs on the money for a while but I added it up one day and nearly had a heart attack so I stopped that. Suffice to say, as you would expect, it owes me lots more than its worth but its been my hobby and passion and you can't put a dollar value on that.

I derive much pleasure from reading pelican and 911 S registry posts but have not been a regulkar contributor so thanks Steve for putting the photos up however you did it!!!

I am coming to the US for Ventura this year so maybe I will meet some of you there. I am looking forward to it as we have nothing like this in Australia and I have the cheque book ready for the swap meet. Thanks again for your interest

Clyde,

Pls come for a visit and bring the Targa. Course we might have to "impound" it just for general principal.

It really looks nice and you can tell that we are all jealous of the car. Wish I had the time, place and money to do it to mine!

Derek, You should be pleased to know that parts of your car will eventually be part of this car although well disguised!!!

Bring the Targa, well its RHD and that would no doubt cause kaos I am having enough trouble driving my LHD in Australia as it is. gearstick on the other side is OK at slow speeds but when getting serious I have ended up with a box full of the wrong gear a few times

Clyde, I will also be at Ventura this year! I've managed to convince my wife I deserve at least one Porsche thing on our belated honeymoon

The Australian Pelican/Early 911 contingent could be well represented there this year. We should try and hook up for a beer.

Clyde,
I have to say again wow, My car is coming out of paint this week I hope, we will see if it makes it out this time(four months later).
I was thinking of dropping the front suspension, and the rear and sand blasting and painting , now It is a must after see yours .

I guess you got the heater control ok.

Man you project looks great , I was going to rush to have it done for the fall, but I think I will wait and do all the extra parts completely ,I love the way everything came out under there!!!

Did you repaint the engine stuff ? red, I was looking at mine I don't know how to paint that part. Any thoughts.
I did paint all the engine sheet metal, but how do you make the plastic look so good?

Derek

Clyde,

I think it was your blue '73 S Coupe I spied at John Gregory's workshop about 18 months ago. Great job! The new one looks sensational, too.

Derek,

It was painted 4 times before I got the colour right. It perfectly matches the original colour.

I am assured that it will not be damaged by engine heat etc but time will tell. Even the original fibreglass with colour impregnated fades over time.

Aussie guys who don't know we have a new group being established down under check www.typ901.org for more information.

John send me an email and we will arrange to meet at Ventura

Derek take your time, its worth it in the end. The suspension looks great in powder coating and is durable as well for when you do drive it

"Nuts" can be a title of honor! "Insane" would be doing this to a '76 911...
