question about tire wheel combos

So I'm looking at tire and wheel combos for autox and DE eventually.

I have seen both phone dial and fuchs available in size 16" by 6 and 7. It seems that the tire size for these wheels runs in the 205/55 & 225/50 range. Seems to me that those tire sizes would be better on a 7 &8 rim size.

The choice of tires in 16" seems limited, but still better than for 15". The question is how do these pretty tall sidewalls do when autoxing for fun with the realization that I am pretty much a mid pack driver out there for the fun of it?

Seems to me that the hot autox ticket would be the 15s due to the 23" dia of the tires effectively lowering the gear ratio.
