When I mash the accelerator down anywhere in the range of 3-5k revs (eg if overtaking after changing down or changing up after a third to 4th shift), the car kinda stutters then goes.
I don't know whether it is a misfire or what a "flat spot" feels like. Well, I know my old TZR250 2 stroke motorbike had a flat spot and it is different to that. So I guess it is a misfire? Car is a 1969T on carbs. Is this characteristic of carbs or is it an ignition thing? Thanks ------------------ Cameron Baudinet 1975 911S (in bits) 1969 911T |

But it doesn't when you accelerate slowly or smoothly.
I would assume it's carbs related? Warren? |

Yep, it doesn't do it when you accelerate smoothly.
The CDI MAY be bypassed though (I dont' think so but haven't looked closely and the PO mentioned something). Cam |

Cam,
The '69 'T' model did not have a CDI-unit, stock! If there is one on the left fender past the Voltage regulator, relays, etc. ... then it was probably updated somewhere along the line. And, if the coil is still the CDI version ... Bosch 0.221.121.001 (stamped on the bottom) then the CDI-unit had better be working! 12 Volts won't generate much output from a CDI coil, and overheating the coil is a distinct possibility! ------------------ Warren Hall 1973 911S Targa 1992 Dodge Dakota 5.2 4X4 parts hauler [This message has been edited by Early_S_Man (edited 08-29-2001).] |

My 911S did that as well, changed the plugs, wires, cap, rotor, and points and it ran much much better

Do the carbs on your car have an accelerator pump? It's been awhile since I've messed with carburetors but it sounds a lot like what would happen when the accelerator enrichment circuit heads south in old Detroit iron.

Cam, anyway, what are you doing messing around with another 911 when you have the '75 car in bits? A devil for punishment I would say.
Next time you are down in "head office territory" give me a yell and we could meet up, do a few beers and talk cars. Bill '79SC |

Definitely Bill!
I bought another one because the '75 obstinately refuses to reassemble itself no matter how long I leave it to think about how naughty it has been getting all pulled apart and painted and spending all my money. Well, that and I always wanted a lightweight pre-impact bumper car and the one I found, although it has problems, neither weight, rust or cost is one of them. Cam |
