Car keeps running even with key removed???
My 930 has been in storage for 2 years due to a move. Put in fresh oil, fresh gas, fresh battery. After some cranking and starter fluid it fired right up. Ran nicely. I let it run for about 5 minutes and went to shut it off. Took the key out. Dash lights went out, radio went out... Car kept idling. Ran for about another minute....
What caused that??? I assume it ran until it used up whatever fuel pressure was left... Is this a key ignition issue? I did have most of the electronics in the front disconnected as I restored the fuel tank. Is it possible something wasn't connected? I searched the board, and didn't see this pop up before... Anyone experience this with a 911 before? Thank for any help. |
the delayed ignition cut-off relay keeps the ignition on to allow time for the injectors to bleed off, so when the manifold heat soaks, the injectors don't drool. not for a whole minute though.

It ran for awhile. I had enough time to get out of the car, lift the hood, and look around...
I will try it again tommorrow, as I am heading to work. I appreciate your help. I looked in the front trunk, and in the left side by the gas filler area there is a round multi connector that isn't connected to anything. Actually, there are 2 that look the same, one is connected male/female, and one is dangling. I don't see it's mate... Could that have anything to do with it? I haven't had a chance to work on this car much the last year, so I could have left something disconnected. I have lots of things to do before it's road ready.... I guess I am happy it runs! That was my biggest fear. ;) |
could be one of the fuel pump relays is sticking or the electrical part of the ignition switch is not getting turned off completely.

It possibly getting energized thru the alternator diode.,cheers, Stef.

Do you have a turbo timer?

I just wanted to update this thread. Work has been awefully busy, and the car has been sitting.
Finally went to start it again this weekend. It no longer ran on like it did before. It will now run about 2-3 seconds after the key is removed, then shut off. I wonder if this was simply a stuck relay, or something similar. The car does stutter at idle, and seems to be really lean. It starts easily, then dies in a second or two. After several starts like this it will run fine, but stumbles. If I shoot starter fluid into the intake while it is stumling, it evens out and runs great. Then 5 seconds later, stumbles and runs uneven again. I figure that a long drive will clear that up, or at least I hope so. Right now the car is on a lift, waiting for some parts :). Might want to richen up the WUR... Thank you all for helping. Bo |
don't mess with the WUR until you're sure all other adjustments are correct. might just need the idle mix richened up. got an exhaust analyzer?
|
Thanks for the reply. I am planning to buy a AFR meter soon, but do not have an exhaust analyzer.
I will richen up the idle this weekend. Thanks for the help - its appreciated. |
