Solar Battery Maintainer

Saw this today at my local auto store. Amazon.com: Schumacher SP-200 2.4W Solar Battery Maintainer: Automotive

Anyone have any experience with this? Was going to plug this into my wife's Cayman as she doesn't have a power outlet to plug in her trickle charger. Doesn't appear that it can overcharge the battery.

Thanks,

Gene

So it uses the sun to charge the battery?

I gave the harbor freight version of this to my son to use in his Range Rover which sits for a month at a time and it worked for him..

Yes, its a Range Rover so that is expected , now with my Porsche its rarely parked outside and I drive it unless I am going to Grocery Store or some place where tampering/theft/door dings are more likely

The Cayman spends its life parked outside year-round in Hawaii. Think it would work nicely mounted on the rear deck under the hatchback.

I had an older VW type solar charger. Suction cup it to the window and plug it in the cig lighter.

Only think I did not like was you had to unplug it before starting car per the instructions.

They work pretty good. I tested one on my passat for 6 hours on a partly cloudy day and it moved the battery up one tenth of a volt. Not a scientific test as I tested voltage right after I pulled the charger off but they do add a wee bit of voltage.

I also remember them being 1.8 watts of power. The linked unit is 2.5.

The solar panel is best for RV batteries.

Get the battery tender and put the pigtail on the battery posts. The ciggy adapter is lame.

I use the Harbor Freight version on my enclosed trailer to keep the battery for the tongue jack, interior lights and winch charged. Obviously this sits outside 24/7 and so far it's worked just fine.

I have the small rectangular harbor freight one velcro'd on the carpet like dashboard cover in a chrysler pt cruiser and it helps a lot.

The Florida sun is making the black plastic frame warp and crack but the glass part that makes electricity from the sun keeps working good.

I leave it plugged into the cigarette lighter all the time.

What do you do to repel cats from your Rover? There is another guy on here that wants to kill innocent cats when they get on his car which is parked outside.
