My dumb turn signal question....

Hi everyone,

I'm stuck out in the garage trying to remove my left front turn signal housing. The wires are so short I've got no play to remove it. I can see a connector, but being new I've got no clue how to "pop" this apart. Do I just yank on it? Or does this kind of twist together? Again, being new I've got the "I don't want to break anything" feelings! I can see it's probably not been apart since rolling out of the factory in 1973. Any help will be humbly appreciated!

Thanks,

Jeff:)

As I recall when I did the turnsignal on my 83, they just pull apart. In mine, in addition to the couple of singles, a wiring harness led to the head light switch (turn signal doubles as the high beam switch) and there were 6 or so wires that plugged in there...be sure to write down where the wires plug in.

if you are talking about the round connector up in the wheel well, it just pulls straight off.

Rob & Kurt,

Thanks for the replies. It seemed like they should just pull apart. Amazing how all the dirt under the wheel well kind of cements everything together over the years!

The wiring for the indicator stalk assembly are all within the cabin, under the dash, aren't they? squeaky clean. Not out in the wheel well.
The (black) round connector is the simplest and I think plugs into its mate thru to the trunk area up near the hood strut.

Hi Sean,

It was the round black connector for the housing in the wheel well. The two sides of the connector had mud "welded" on it and it was a pain to take apart. I also had very little slack in the wiring so it was tough to get behind the assembly to pull it apart.

It was one of those "quick" jobs that took the whole afternoon:rolleyes:
