'73 911E: is there something missing?
While preparing to replace the hood struts on our '73 E, I decided to do some clean-up in the rear of the trunk area. The photo shows a circular hole that appears as though it might have once had a plate or cover or whatever on it at one time. Problem is: we are original owners and this area has never been opened up, at least we don't believe that the cardboard panel covering this area has ever been removed in he past).
Is a cover or something else missing in this area? Thanks! http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1379429119.jpg As a "side note" check out the washer and bolt stuck in the factory seam sealer in the bottom of the "cubby" area: apparently a gift from an assembly line worker. http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1379429356.jpg |
Here is an "as found by me" shot from my 73E with AC.

Thanks, Clark. After getting your reply I did find the cover you have in the Porsche PET (illustration 813-65)... something Porsche calls a "support" (#26 on the diagram). But, I still wonder if non-A/C cars had a solid cover there originally. It looks as though there is some sort of residual adhesive around the hole... like maybe something had been attached to cover the hole.
Hopefully someone with a '73 non-A/C car might know if the hole is supposed to be covered. Thanks again! Bill |
Question answered...
I was referred to a thread on the Early S Forum that answers this question. In case anyone is interested:
This here hole in the front trunk near the smugglers box? |
Interesting.
I was just looking at the same hole in my '77. |
Ordered the reproduction from Bob at bob@appbiz.com today.
