SC doors on a 74 Targa

I recently acquired a White 74 Targa, the door were skinned at some point and are in poor condition. I have a good friend with a set of white SC coupe doors. Just wondering if anyone has made this swap and what if any are the issues involved. The 74 has manual window cranks and the SC were electric are the internal fasting points all the same regardless of what type of windows were originally specified. I looked on my 80SC and it looks like the mirror access holes have been filled. Can one access the pre SC holes for the mirror attachment?

The basic door shells will interchange. The later coupe doors will have different window frame than your 74 targa, but those could be swapped. The coupe window regulators will lack the extra bracket fitted to the targa regulators to provide a height adjustment stop and may be the later cross arm design. I'd probably suggest that you just use your '74 regulators. The mirror holes will be completely diferent. You'd have to do a little welding to use the earlier mirrors, or use a set of later mirrors.

Door Swap questions

Thanks Java Dog-

My intent is to use my existing window regulators and frames in the SC coupe doors. Can this be done with out fabricating or modifying the existing SC doors? In regard to fitting a 74 period correct mirror to a SC door, what is involved when you say welding? Do I have to fill exterior SC holes in the door? Where the SC door the same as mid year except that the factory filled/sealed the two hole on the inside of the door which enable you to gain access to the allen screws which hold the mirror on? I recently purchased a nice new original chrome mirror.

"the SC were electric"

As a clarification point, not 100% true, in fact i have a 78 with manual windows. Posters above stated everything, different Window holes and stop adjustment needed for targa.

Porsche made a lot of little changes here and there but the only issue I think you'll have is related to the mirrors. There are 5 holes in an SC door for mounting the mirrors and some of those will have to be welded up to mount an early mirror. I'd probably just cut out a section of the door at that point and weld in a new one.
