89 930 fuel pump issue

When I turn my key one click I am not hearing the fuel pumps turn on. The car starts fine but after running it for a while I have a tough time getting it started again. Any ideas?

You won't hear the fuel pumps run with just the key on - the air metering arm in the fuel distributer assembly must move downward, via air pressure, for the pumps to run (aka: the engine must be turning over for the pumps to run). This is a safety feature that prevents the pumps from continuing to run if the car stalls with the ignition on (like in a wreck).

Regarding your warm, hard start question; sounds like the fuel accumulator not maintaining pressure, but could be any number of things. There is a sticky thread at the top of the 930 forum that would probably help you out.

Pump on CIS runs after the engine is running. CIS is all about fuel pressure. You should have a Bentley manual and a set of gauges. Make sure the starting pressure and hot start pressures are correct.

A turbo has twin pumps if I recall.

Check the electric relays that control the fuel pumps. One of mine was defective when it warmed up and would intermittently fail causing the fuel pump to cut out.

Nice car by the way (if I do say so myself). Welcome to the world of turbo cabs!
