Insurance in NJ is painful...
My dad put me on his insurance for his 85 buick century because I'm 16, and have a permit. Just to add me as a driver put his insurance up 800 dollars, It's around 3200 a year, for a 1985 buick without full coverage, and my dad has been driving for 30-40 years... ofcourse he has some points on his lisence but god I can't imagine insurance for me. He has to get rid of the buick just because insurance is so high, and it isn't worth fixing.. plus I don't think the insurance is worth it. I wonder what it's ganna be when he puts me under his new nissan ...

I live in NJ, insurance is expensive.
I think you may do better to get insured seperatly from your father because I respectivly suspect he has more than a few points! Try this, join AAA, after one year you will be able to get insured through them (AAA Midatlantic) much cheaper than State Farm or Prudential. For your 911T try Haggarty if your 911T is as bad as mine (similar value) it's only $100 for Historic tag insurance. Jeff |

YEARS ago when i was in school my fathers insurance company gave me great discounts for good grades........you may want to look into that, and it could be some good motivation for better grades
![]() i remember when i was 16 "dad.....can i take the sunbeam tiger out for a spin........." dad's response...."no, but you can take the dodge". now when he asks for the keys to the 911 when i'm visiting i just think back and get an evil grin

When I was learning to drive, my parents' insurance covered me automatically for both of their vehicles.
When I was shopping for insurance for my 964 I got quotes between $1500ish (Progressive) and $8000ish (State Farm, IIRC) - needless to say, I'm now a Progressive customer. I didn't realize having points on your license raised the insurance costs so much - it obviously does, $3200 a year is crazy. You might want to look into getting the Buick insured under your name, and get big excesses on any parts of the insurance where it's possible. And shop around, obviously - like I say, the price varies wildly between companies. |

It's very hard to shop around for insurance in New Jersey, most companies don't even cover New Jersey because of the regulations. We don't have progressive, and all state I hear is moving out.. his points are going to go down from one encounter with an officer soon, and hes only been ticketed twice, both for the "no left turn" violation, at the time he didn't know fighting a ticket in court would drop the points, he just thought it was a waste of time. The buick is gone, at my uncles garage and it is a V6 so that could be why it's a little expensive. It's definetly about the go because the valves are going, and it puts out black smoke. I say it did preaty good, 112000 miles for an american car, and we changed the oil every 3000 miles.
I'll try the AAA thing, could be nice because don't they have free towing? That could come in handy with the 911. Could I have the number for Haggarty? Quote:

NJ has the highest insurance rates in the country, probably because it is the most densely populated of them all..
Plus, we don't have as many insurance companies as everyone else, another one I just remember is Geico. And the 3200ish was for both his cars just to verify that, my mistake. I got a quote just for messing around to see what insurance for me on a new GTI would be, turned out 3000ish for half a year, 6000 for full coverage for one year.... RIPOFF |

Think your rates are high in New Jersey, New York City rates are the highest in the country. Having a significantly higher population density than NJ is only part of the equation.

Before I got the 911, my second vehicle was a 1990 plymouth voyager I used as my winter beater. I sold it & bought the 911 and my insurance actually went down if you can believe it. That included a $500 deductable colision insurance coverage that I did not have on the minivan. I also have the car valued at the full appraised value!
Its under $600 Canadian a yr or about $400 of your greenbacks. Porsche911t all I can say is OUCH. Remember to keep clean out there on the highways. If you get a few tickets you will be walking for sure. I have been there and paid that.

I just insured my car here in New York City and it was a lot less than I could have insured it for in New Jersey (my fiance has a house there).
Population density is a factor but also look at the auto theft rates around Newark and East Orange. Their numbers blow NYC out of the water thus the higher insurance rates.

911T
The tel number for Hagerty is 1 800 922 4050 This is for "classic' insurance That is, it is for a classic car not a daily driver. It should be garaged when not in use and the milage is restricted. On the plus side it is a sum assured type policy more like on valubles rather than a regular auto type policy. Jeff |

Thanks Jeff!
That is exactly what I'm looking for. I'll call them up and get details, see what it would be under my dads name, and me as a driver, if that is possible. Is it also restricted so I can't take the car to school/work? I wouldn't do it all the time because door dings scare the crap out of me, but if I park next to people I know and trust they shouldn't be a problem. |
