Porsche 911 Motor

I have a Porsche engine with the numbers stamped 901.101.101or on the side. All of the parts seem to be there except for the valve covers, 3 piston rods and the gasket set. Can anyone tell me what I should ask for this motor. I got this motor when I bought a Porsche 917 kit car. I am going back with a VW motor and need to get rid of this one to pay for parts on the kit car. It is all in pieces but it does look like the heads have been done and has new pistons. Does anyone know what year model this came out of and what it would be worth? Thanks for the help. McDaddytx

That's a casting number, which isn't much help. Look on the case to the right side of the fan housing area for the type number (9xx/xx) and the serial number and report back. Condition is important, so pictures will help.

That is a 1967 engine case, so probably a 2.0 liter engine still. Look in this thread to find where the 3 important engine #'s are, and report back.

Third number on engine case

Looks to have cast iron cylinders and non-counterweight crankshaft, which says 911T, although type number says L. Possibly a "bitsa" motor. The aluminum engine case is valuable, as is the early fan housing. Webers have the emission control doohickey which pegs them as '68 model year, US spec. If in good shape, they are valuable too. Probably you would do better selling the individual items rather than as a complete motor.

Crank is counterbalanced so its not a T
Aluminum case, carbs, and crank is the value.
